Default 16's or 17's?

I need to get some new summer wheels (for winter I am getting a new set of 15's for sure). I have a set of OZ Rallye 8x16's but other set I have of STD 16's will not fit over 304mm brakes I have installed. I need some new ones. What do you think? What sort of Tyre size would you run with 17's? Can I run 225/45R17's or 235/45R17's? I have coilover suspension so tyre to spring platform clearance is not an issue (I am getting Mike R's nuergburgring spec. suspension this week ).

If I want to use the car seriously I need at least two sets for summer (semi-slick and threaded tyre) and one for winter months with narrow winter ones. Any suggestions welcome. I am on very tight budget but as I work at Compo dealer company I can get myself nice prices I think (I would be more then happy to extend that to you people, but I bet shipping costs both ways would kill the benefit).

18's are not a good option over here, I don't want the shell falling apart, the roads as compared to UK are catastrophic.

If ya cannot get ya std 16s over the brakes ya wont get 15" winter wheels on either mate.
For summer get some 17s with anything from 215s - 235s maybe.

Dunno how bad your roads are but where I live they are SH*T!!(Norway) My Escos is on coilovers and standard 16's and it hurts lol. But I'm going 18's lol. I'd go 17's if I were you. Looks and comfort combined. Well.. sort of comfort.

So what sort of tyre size on 17's? My 225/45R16 R888's are really close to the washer tank on full lock.

I have never seen any 225/40R17's, only 235/40R17 or 225/45R17.

8x17s ET15 with 235/40x17 tyres IMO. Look at Billabongs car, they suit it VERY well .

Be carefull about picking a suitable tyre, as some have stiffer sidewalls than others. If you want a SOFT one (for comfort / ride), then the Dunlop Sport 9000s allow a good degree of comfort (but move around on track).

Mike: me and soft sidewalls? You must be joking. I drive on r888's or similar nowadays. Everything softer then RE070/r888 seems too soft for me

So 235/40R17 shouldn't catch on anything? I have some issue with this washer fluid tank, dunno why, nothing seems bent or broken there yet it is very very close on full lock.

You said you didn't want to ruin the shell .

I run 235/40 x 18s R888s on track and have no problems, other than it catching the back liner on full lock at parking speed, so the inch smaller should be even better.

Do not run the suspension too low, as not only will you fuck up the front roll centre, you will catch the top of the liners on big compressions (wearing through them).

Mike, I do belive it's the suspension's job to upsorb the bumps not the tyres'

I won't run it too low, I recently have become a fan of quite high set cars, it makes for much nicer drive, even if slower on smooth surface.

Because they look too far inset = and don't have as much clearance for big brakes. With ET15, you can fit 356mm 6pots without spacers.

You wouldn't belive what a huge difference the tyres / pressures can make to ride quality though!

depends on the wheel probably I am sometimes shocked how much difference is between two wheels of the same size.

I know I have tried every possible combination on Mitsubishi and the Subaru The best combination is 18'' with rally slick and ohlins grp.N suspension, but I can't afford It really is quite comfortable even if it does not sound like it.

OK, i should stop dreaming... anyways I do understand the differences both for comfort and the handling.
