Default Keep Clear Gates

I have some gates outside my house, they are easily ten foot high by fourteen foot long, i have KEEP CLEAR IN USE 24 HOURS in big white letters,
which 90% of the time is noted,
BUT: we have a chinese at the bottom of our road, which people keep using and blocking our drive whilst doing this, meaning i have to park the car up and/or hunt who ever it belongs to down to leave the house
My question is, can i do anything else to deter people parking there? as the writing was on the gate when we moved in over 3 years ago, and do they even have to take notice off the sign as i guess unless the council put it there im helpless?? Any one in the know would be off great help cheers

you could put a claming sign up and stress 24hr claiming PARK HERE AND YOU WILL BE CLAMPED, but not sure if you can actually clamp people?

In an ideal world, get you mates round to block them in, when they come knocking, point out they have prevented you getting into your drive and the cars belong to two family memember and have had to park as close to the house ad possible and that they have gone to a function and will be back in the morning.

Would get abit tyresome after a few times though.

Ask the council to put double yellow lines down for the length of the gated area as it's your property access.

so when he parks on them in his own motor he'll get ticketed yes?

not the way to go about it

stick up a clamping sign with a "your car will be clamped and towed if you park here" and add a phone number specificially for getting unclamped, a fiver for as im card and job done

clamp whoever comes along, tow them away if they don't turn up within 30 minutes

stick a sign up in the chinese place as well

you do realise though that if they fuck your clamp up it's going to be difficult to get it sorted

we eradicated the problem by writing "don't park here again" in candle across the windscreens of al the cars that blocked us up

alternativly, put a post in the ground if the council will let you

Buy a fork lift truck and then you can move all the cars, preferably into a skip across the road.

Think you can only clamp on private ground - not the Queen's highway!

Must be a pain in the butt.

At Uni, they stuck no parking signs to our cars with wall paper paste - bloody hard to remove them if you parked badly.

you cant clamp on the road. unless you own it.your not allowed to paint markings or yellow lines on the road either.
perhaps a false clamping warning sign might help though?

They do this at our work (the wallpaper thing) your right!, its a nightmare to get that off the screen, might scan 1000 pictures of Dale Winton and get the wallpaper paste out for the next person!

That seems a good idea mate!, only think im thinking is if they have all ready parked there and gone in they wont give a fook anyway but will pop down there in a bit, as the council looks out the window, and what have i got to loose

but theyll know next time not to park there if they read the sign in the shop.the same people tend to use specific takeaways. eventually itll happen less and less.

my folks live opposite a primary school...

its so annoying, id be on the drive sat in my car, look up and someone would park across the drive.... id get out excuse me you cant block my drive im leaving,, normally get 1 of 2 replys, i'll only be a min, or sorry mate and they move it (and 99% of the time if i sit there for a few mins after they have gone, they drive round the block and do it again only to realise im still looking at them),

the worst once was school finishing at 3.10, a car still over the drive at 4.10, so my missis got in my old defender90 and draged the thing up the street.

before now ive popped tyres, left notes, put up signs, i really do believe nothing works, there will always be someone who thinks im only gonna be 2mins and dump their car.

I agree on the replies mate lol the amount of people who say "ill be 2 minutes" my reply being "its still 2 minutes out of the 24 hours" generally i find if im polite and ask them to move nicely they do end off, but just does my head in

How cool is that living that close to a Chinese

I'd contact a private clamping company. They'd earn a fortune on a Friday/Saturday night. Also and I may be wrong but I'm sure its not an offence to obstruct a gate with a dropped kerb. Its a pain in the arse as you well know as I've had it happen to me a couple of times, although they've moved it pretty quick when, I've hooked a towing eye chain to the front or rear of their car.

Even if you put up signs or the Council put in double yellows, you'll still get some numb nut parking there. Butter under the door handle is messy. It might be worth trying your local paper as they might want to have a dig at either the Council or the Chinese for whatever reason.

i live oposit a school to i used to work shifts & would be getting home just as school kicked out one day there was a car across my drive so i just parked my car right next to theres on the road & went in the house
i blocked the road & stoped them getting in there car
funny thing is they didnt have the balls to come & ask me to move & when all the gridlock had cleared i nipped out to go to the shop on my return the car had gone & even now no one parks across my drive

Other than whats been suggested, theres not really much you can do. Well, legally anyway. You cant go clamping them as that would be illegal for sure.

A notice in the chinky is the best idea. It may take a while but would certainly get better im sure, although they'll always be some that still do it, or dont see the sign, or just couldnt give a toss.

I think it will always happen no matter what you do though, and its just something that youve gotta accept unfortunatly. Yes you can have a go at them, write on their windows etc, but its only going to be a matter of time before the shit hits the fan.

The problem you have really mate is that there will be a streamof different people doing it.

You tell one, and another is right behind to do it. For this reason, I would go with a nice BIG sign saying "YOU WILL BE INSTANTLY CLAMED IF YOU PARK HERE"

This will be enough to deter all but the biggest c*ck heads who will park there no matter what.

Dojj, tell them what you did to the school run mom - classic!!!!

funny thing is mate, I bet if you had no gates and an open drive no one would park in front, it is just that they don't think they will be in use at night.

I do not believe this is the case in England, there is no offence for blocking a drive with no vehicle in it, but it is classed as obstruction if a vehicle cant get out.

A drop kerb doesn't grant you any special or per se right of access or egress from your driveway, it is a result of road markings in the form of H bars or the like that stops or prohibits parking across it.
