Default 2wd Cossie Engine Undertray ???

My 4x4 cos has a great big sheet of plastic which runs from both front chassis rails and up to the front bumper. Was this an addition to the 4x4's or did 2wd ones have them too ?

Will a 4x4 one fit on a 2wd ?

Only asking cos our 2wd doesn't have one

Thanks in advance
Greg

i got one off ebay which the seller said was from a 4x4. it fitted fine onto my car, which is a 4x4 shell with 2wd running gear. dunno if the 2wd shell has the captive nts in the chassis rails? anyway, it clears the 2wd crossmember and everything.

little tip for you - to fix it on, don't use bolts cos they're way too fiddly. screw some studding into the chassis rails and then the tray just pops on them and holds itself in place while you put some nuts on.

The rwd does not have the captive nuts to fit the undertray, my chassis has been drilled & the captive nuts fitted so i can use an undertray.

My Sapphire (one of the last 2wds made) had the captive nuts in place, so it just bolted straight up....

The item is no longer available from Ford, so would have to be purchsed second hand.

Thanks guys, my saff's E reg so chances are the captive nuts aren't there unlike Mike's.

Good tip mr ForeignRS... will remember that next time I take my 4x4 one off.

Rod, I hope your undertray is a little more than a sheet of thick plastic

Its a hybrid one , parts of it are orginal but the fixings & Front section have been modified in ally & shape changed to help airflow.

i guess your undertray is for protection rather than any aerodynamic benefits spiky. will still be cool to see some pics

is it me, or does anyone else chuckle at the word 'undertay'?
