Default What are you doing to save money?

With this credit crunch etc going on?

We are doing quite well although room for improvement still
  • Bought a diesel to use as daily runner instead of petrol, halving the cost of our weekly fuel bill
  • Started doing a weekly meal plan so we dont overspend on food shopping, which has worked a treat, also helps with the weight loss lol
  • Shopping at Aldi instead of Asda, noticing a £30 a week drop in our food bill with the above 2
  • Using energy efficient bulbs, turning everything off at the switch when its not in use and not leaving tv on constantly to keep electricity costs down
  • Changed to a fixed rate gas and electricity deal to try and curb the increase
  • Hoping to downgrade mobiles as soon as possible as got loads of unused minutes every month which we are paying for
Probably loads of other things we can do to save a bit of cash, ive never been so conscious of spending until recently and its quite nice saving a bit instead of just wasting it

Using the fireplace instead of the central heating. Spent all day yesterday acting as a lumberjack cutting down a few tree's and chopping them all up.
Anthing that can go in the bin, but is burnable is chucked in too.

Erm, other than that, I spend as little as poss anyway as my wife is still not able to work due to our tragedy this year.

can anyone have a proper fire put in? our fire is hopeless and the ceilings are very high, at least a proper fire would warm the room up

How is your wife coping after the loss of your little one? hope things are looking up for you both

we got a parkray/ closed in type one that burns smokeless coal, you shove some on like once or twice a day, close the little doors and leave it, that heats all our radiators(we have an old house and its warm enough) and also does the water too, but if you use it alot the water tank needs to be switched on for a while to boost it

not got a clue what sort of heating ours is, the kitchen has a fire with a backboiler in it, but the front room one is just a gas fire which throws no heat out at all

Not at all. I have family in food retail, and once again, I would NEVER shop in Aldi.

That, and the pikey scum wandering round that place is enough to make sure you never go in! I am ashamed to say I did go in there once!

Sign of the local area's status.

Marks and Spencer open a store - area on the way up.
Aldi opens? Sell your house!

OK its a quite expensive part of our town, smart arse Although there was uproar from the residents when it opened, you would see them going in with M&S bags, they obviously didnt want to offend the neighbours

ROFPMSL! I have to pump my own water and treat it, so more water saving the better!

Sarah, to have a proper fire, you need a lum (chimney) to put the smoke, unless you a smoker that is. We're in a very old croft and got a stove that is just a huge radiator. Just stick on the logs and adjust the amount of oxygen getting in to control the heat. We can light it, head out of a few hours and come back in and the fire will still be going and the house warm.

As for your other question, we're getting on ok. We still have moments when seeing other babies. Every day is getting better but both our sensitive sides have increased dramatically! We've even been crying at the X-Factor!!! :coat:
