thing is criminals arent stupid and they need to do reasearch to know what cossies and other cars parts are worth. To be honest most people only put thier town on their profile here and they will probably know that anyway if theyve spotted you and come here for research.

Only thing i guess is car spec would give them a good idea of value and some photos show a bit too much of the house and if its on drive or garage.

PF not being open unless you are a member would be good start. So you cannot see the forum unless you register.

the bonus for me is that my driveway is JUST wide enough for the car to get down, so you couldn't get a low loader or the like down to tow it out, plus it's behind big metal gates and there is probably another 100 feet worth of driveway to get a winch down if you were feeling like youwanted to tow it away

if i were a car theif i wouldnt come onto a forum to locate and steal a flash car - I'd go on Auto Trader or ebay, contact the seller, say "i'm interested in the car, can i have your address please to come and see it?" - i'd scan the joint out a couple of nights see where the car is, what security it's got....then i'd make it dissapear.

Disclaimer - I am NOT a car theif, nor have i ever stolen a car before, nor will i ever steal a car.

a lad who was a mate of a mate used to do this Ring up about a car and ask what security it has etc then go and steal it, he must have nicked loads that way as people were very honest.

OH and finding credit card till rolls from bins out the back of places like halfords who dont keep till rolls and using the card numbers and expiry numbers etc to add to paypal as an account, then paying via the credit card to buy a car in full off ebay.
obviously when the person has realised someones spent 2k through paypal the car has already been picked up.

Not sure how that worked the one above but he did turn up at PVS in 2005 with a Corsa Gsi with a valver motor in which he had paid for via paypal

I think its awful tbh,

Proper dodgy shit

Thieves are allowed on PF as members, watching peoples habits will tell you a lot.
I used to do repo work, involving hiding in peoples back gardens, going through thier bins, chatting to thier neighbours, all this just to make the job eaiser, although every car had a court reposession order, it was not that easy, some were some weren't.
The worst was sitting in a ditch watching a range rover for 14 hours in water up to my waist, very painfull.
Some were watched for days first, if we knew of trouble, and yes repo men do break the law, saying that you can even get into some cars with no damage with just a lighter, ford had some dodgy ones like this.
The point about lock up's etc on industrial estates is that once behind doors of the unit the thief has all the time he wants.
Thieves are not stupid, they know getting caught is only a tiny slap on the hand as well.

Exactly.
While your at the meet with your bonnet up showing off your goodies, that guy that you dont know stood looking in there pointing chatting to his mate is the guy that will relieve you of your car.

If someone wants your car that badly, they will take it, even if it means entering your house and seeing you face to face.

My cousin had Ł80k's worth of cars taken from his house, the noise machine of a dog was shut up with a bone and a tin of pedigree chum, keys taken at knifepoint.

LOL

The fellas with the machine guns at your place do kind of put into perspective that its not a good place to steal a car from.

Got room for a couple more?

I reckon you could make a killing on secure storage

Unless your on one of the ultra high security places like coulport or aldermaston or nuclear facilities then being on base isnt a garuntee cars have been stolen in all 3 navy bases before.

The key with security is once your in youve got a lot of unrestricted access. Its not hard to get a base work permit these days as long as you arent heavily convicted already.

To be fair, the base Rob is on is relatively low security, they dont check you on the way out, so you could climb the fence, and nick his car and drive off unhindered and they would probably let you out with it, if you were prepared to risk it.
Although you would have to get it started to do that, you couldnt push it away.

chances are you could work unhindered for ages as its pretty common on bases for people to spend ages working on cars after theyve come back from time deployed to find it wont start

You wouldnt get far if you came over fence as these days they usually have cameras and sensors in them.

Your best bet is coming in on foot with a fake id card and enter the base on an entrance where the walkway is furthest from the guard post. Most guard posts are in centre of road so they can check vehicle passes for expiry!!

You just need the right clothing and chances are they wont see pass any closer than a few feet away!

nah, you dont need any sort of specific clothing, I wander in and out on a pass all the time in civvys

easiest way onto the base is bung a sailor 50 quid to sign you in I expect

Yeah but if your dressed like a docky you wont arouse suspicion where as typical pikey clothing or hippy clothes/ muslim dress would get your id checked at the least

paranoia seems to be setting in for some. thieves are more likely to target you after seeing you drive about your area as they are seeing a car on the internet, tracing it back to your address ,finding the address ,travelling to see it, casing the joint and finally planning a scam to relieve you of said car.
