Default mechanicly minded peeps, help please

My mr2 failed its mot on:

1. A offside rear seized caliper,
2. Imbalanced front brakes,
3.1 front steering rack gaitor,

i have had all 3 replaced, and said to the bloke once he had fitted the rear caliper, does it require the handbrake to be tightened 2?,
he told me no....as it needs the caliper to unwind first by being driven, then it will be fine? does this sound ok? as i have noticed it getting a little better, but the m.o.t has expired, and i dont want to drive it while the m.o.t is out......but if i put it into an m.o.t now im sure it will still fail on a handbrake as it doesnt feel good enough,

Any Advise will be much appreciated
cheers Statey

You can drive a car with no MOT as long as you are on the way to a pre booked mot appointment, so you perhaps try to risk it? Not sensible though. Maybe the mot tester is allowed to drive it to free it up?

is that the piston on the caliper? as this was what he wound right back, and what he meant by driving it to make it wind back out? like i say last thing i want is to get pulled and my car taken Cheers

Unless they are odd calipers(?) you normally have to manually fully wind back in to thier starting position, if a new one it will already be in this postion, try putting the h/brake on and off a few times, whilst the brakes are pressed.

If i remember the handbrake should be between 3 & 6 clicks ??

Can you not run it round the block a few times (using the brakes to adjust the calliper) & then re-adjust the handbrake on that side ??
