Default 1/4 mile and terminal speeds

right im going to have another go at the 1/4 mile this weekend

i made a cunt of launching it last time it was either lighting up or bogging down

ive not had much use of the car atal in last year

but im going to give it a go,im going to try and just ease it off the line then load it up once moving rather than rev it to 6k and drop the clutch

so question is i dont hold up any hope for a decent 1/4 time but im intrsted in what sort of speed people reckon i should be hiting the line at?

what's your power now?

with 420bhp i was hitting about 117mph, with a severe lack of traction off the line.

you will mate, for sure

I struggled like fook off the line in mine, the tyres just didn't like the surface i think (they would grip and launch fine on the road lol)

I think my 60ft times were 2.6 and my 1/4 was 13 dead....the extra power you have should see you get in the 12's, unless the surface is shite, or your tyres are pony.

no chance at 130mph terminal speed, you'll be spinning the wheels to much for that, and for anybody that dont know crail it has a terrible surface

Just feed the clutch in slowly at 4000rpm.

With your power you should see 120mph terminal.

Steve.

if you're not in the 12's, you can't drive or there's something seriously wrong with your car. I managed a 13.121@107 with 100bhp less than you in my old 2wd saff. I'd hope it'd do a 12.5 at least at about 120!

less power means its easyer to get off the line though & in a 1/4 mile the first 60ft is where the time is made or lost

As a very rough guide I always say approximately for a 2wd car:

200bhp- 100mph terminal
300bhp - 110mph terminal
400bhp - 120mph terminal
500bhp - 128mph terminal
600bhp - 135mph terminal
700bhp - 140mph terminal

I know there are all kind's of exceptions but that is a good general guide for a normal road going 2wd car.

My old 500bhp Saff with Mr. Shead at the wheel ran 12.1 @127mph at the totb qualifier in 2003. Its PB was a 11.8 with a similar terminal.

My 650 conversion managed an 11.5 @ 138mph but on 200mph gearing & tyres at 40psi during a 0-200 mph run.

Will be circa 150 terminal now but not much quicker ET as the old girl aint set up for it.
