Question fuel pump relays

i know series one has the larger silver relay with an extra seperate wire (spade terminal) and a series 2 has the pink one same as xr3i, does anybody know wot that extra wire does on the series one? and will the pink version one work on series one? if not why?as the wires on the plug look the same/ is there a way round it? (that extra wire)

cheers for any help on this... ;0)
