been thinking of getting one as the extra room would be handy to take the bikes out etc,,, like the look of the 2.5 petrol, it won't do major mileage but then i know the focus st is not good on fuel, plus the new tax brackets...... seen a few 2.0 tdci ones at reasonable money aswell, many of you have experiance on them?

Personally I would go for the top of the range diesel and have it remapped if it's not powerful enough for you. They are a fantastic car though. Well built and so on...

s-max's are lovely cars.very spacious, sporty looking and comfy too.id personally get the detuned st version.only give away is twin exhausts.only probs we suffer from them at work is alarms randomly going off but thats a warranty case and normally alarm siren and or ultrasonic sensors fixes that

been & looked at a few today, we like them a lot, the kids think there 'cool' aswell, was looking at brand new ones aswell, the 'individual' model is really nice with the black/silver leather combo, just don't know if a could warrant spending nearly 30k on a new one

Buy second hand mate. You'll lose money the minute you drive your new car out the showroom, In norway they say it's around Ł3-4000. Just because you drove it out the store

I drive a ford tourneo for work with the 2.0 tdci engine which I think is the same as the one the S-Max you was looking at and after 232135 miles (on an 05 plate believe it or not) it still pulls well with minimul problems. good cruiser on the motorway and im presuming the S-Max is lighter than the tourneo so it should be more nippier.

i know the losses on a brand new car but sometimes its nice to have new!

have someone who has offered me a reasonable price on a 2.0 tdci, might see if he wants to px the focus.

Hello mate

I've done thousands of miles in the S-Max, and they are a fantastic car! I drove one to Norway and back and loved every second of it.

I would definitely go for the diesel though, as the petrol, despite the long gearing, is still a bit thirsty (Although admittedly great fun!). From what I remember, cruising at 70-ish, you see high 20s mpg.
