Valve hitting pistons..urgento.
Having a bit of trouble doing the cam timing on the fiesta.
Am I correct in thinking that if the valve is hitting the piston, the car won't turn by hand at all? I.e it will stick?? Or is it possible that it will hit and still turn over by hand?
thanks for any hel.

Basically - the car is struggling to start, so I'm checking cam timing but don't have the tools. It was timed with bar and pin, but the inlet cam looks like it's slightly out, so I've moved it a little, to see if it helps...
Basically if the valves are hitting I'm wondering if I would still be able to turn the engine over by hand or would it stop dead when it hits the piston.

No timing marks!
Bar across the slots in the cam, and pin to stop the crank when it's timed up.
I think the slots on the cams are out though and they've been ground from two exhaust cams.. Possibly!

double check piston 1 and 4 are at tdc by looking through the spark plug gaps once locked, if so and cams are locked i cant see a problem, did you oil the bores when engine was assembled?

Dan, these are the lairy cams right? Did you not get proper peak lift timing figures? You'll dramatically affect the powerband "guessing" where they go mate. Ring me on my mobile now if you want pal
If ground from 2 exh cams the timing bar will be 100% wrong. Think about it the in cam slot facing left and exh facing right when timed to tdc left and right slot will be facing each other so the bar will fit, if both cams ground from exh cams then one will be 180 degrees out hence valve to piston contact.
There wasn't valve to piston contact originally - and it wasn;t starting or revving.
Now there is a slight tap and it starts and revs a little, so I'm glad it's confirmed it's the cam timing. Will time it up propper now - clock is counting down - gotta be in london by 6pm!
