Default Advice Before Start Fitting B&M QUICKSHIFT

Hi mates!!

I will start fitting my new B&M QUICKSHIFT KIT next Week, so

Can any one advice me about correct fitting, technical advice, things to keep in mind before, during & after complete installation??

I had read that this kit will increase noise inside the car, vibration from the engine is transmitted along the linkage in to the floor of the car which makes the car extremely noisey and unpleasant to drive,

Is it true??

Many thanks

hi mate, i fitted a short shifter from rally designs which cost me Ł30.00. this is a fraction of the cost you have paid I pressume as mine is a dit kit meaning I had to modify my existing gear shifter. My advice to you is dont get anoyed, as yours is the proper b&m (gods bollox kit) should be straight forward, take your time and have the car as high as possible. I did mine using a car jack and bricks with hardly no room what so ever, I nearly took a sledge to it a few times!!lol Put a post up when you have fitted about how good or not so good it is (i couldnt get hold of one)

noise and vibration isnt too bad, only noticeable above say 3k revs when you are caining it anyway and exhaust is more noisy/intrusive at that point.

Hi picky775

If you fitted the rubber mounts, the B&M gearlever assembly will fit lower down than a standard fitment without them??

Could you put pics of B&M fitted on car??

thats where i've put my rubber too but it's only 4mm i had it lying round when tightened it squashed to 3mm so will be a bit lower but not noticable, you can't see it on the car so can't get you a pic sorry

I can't really see the point in rubber mounting it. That will only introduce some potential movement, which is kind of defeating the object of fitting one in the first place!

I removed my lower centre console and bonded it all together from the back. It's made up of several components and you can successfully bond these together with something like Stikaflex. It will still look factory from the front and on mine that tamed the vibration down no end.

I`m going to be fitting mine this weekend. Am I right in thinking you dont need to use the standard shifters return springs?

Hi mate!!

A friend told me the same.....

"""I can't really see the point in rubber mounting it. That will only introduce some potential movement, which is kind of defeating the object of fitting one in the first place!""""

Do you have pics of your installation???
I think they will clarify us many ideas........

My B&M is installed as per the instructions. Nothing different, just fitted carefully, with everything clean and greased as it should be. The standard gasket that goes between the shifter assembly and the body is still used. All the guts get stripped out of the standard shifter assembly, return springs too.

If you remove the lower console and look at it from the back, you'll see what needs bonding.

make sure you don't have any loose change in the ash tray that will remove most of the noise/vibration
