Default Side Skirts what was inside

Hi All
I have been giving my car an all wheel off axle stand type restore over the past weeks, after stripping a waxing the entire front end, bumper off etc I decided to remove the side skirts to see what was lurking behind there. Not sure if its down to the amount of rain we have had lately, but I could have filled a 2 litre bottle of water with the water that come out of there, needless to say this water had over time had eaten the outer sills at the base, (where Is my Mig). It was pretty bad, in fact when I unscrewed the Torx screws underneath to remove the skirt itself the screws just spun in the rot.

If this rain ever stops, I will be busy fitting a repairing new sills.

Most the side skirt clips remained intact, but the rivet type items either end needed drilling out, are these replacable, also the outer weather strip at the bottom of the door which slides on these small nodular pins, well a couple of the pins snapped, anyone?

Overall its going well....but I was shocked at the sills, I think some small holes drilled in the skirt wouldn't hurt, and a bucket of wax...

the end caps are fantastic rust traps, they have a small drain hole in them already but it gets clogged up straight away, you normally have them at least half full of soil and crud, eating away at your wing/sill

yep i was shocked at mine too but easily repairable. I was devastated TBH but now i know they will never go again after treating the outer sills with mastic 121 and the inside with LOTS of waxoyl

rivets are available yes.

I've got exactly the same problem with mine and will be getting them sorted soon. The rivets you can still buy from ford.

Yes thats it, my front end caps were at least half half of soil etc, having said that the sill next to this that should have been eaten wasn't to bad, I shall certainly add some more drainage holes when I reassemble it.

Does anyone have the part number for the rivets please, it would save me spending ages at the Ford counter again!!!.

have a good day all

Part number for the rivets is - F6158749. I think thats right looking through my receipts as they cost a bit more than the slam panel ones.

Thank you. Would you happen to know if the white push in circular nut type things that go along the bottom of the skirt which the torx screws go into are available. Turn the skirts off entirely last night and am contemplating replacing the sills as opposed to plating, are the sills normal Escort, does anyone know?

I think they are available but don't know the part no. I've asked a few people that have done theirs and the escort mk 5 ones do fit and I'm doing the same, at least they will be good for another 15 yrs!
