Soild mount your beam Andy - like me.

Also - my old beam was polybushed, but my new one is on standard bushes.

In my own opinion they are as good as each other

Poly bush the rear beam mounts (big doughnuts) and rear anti roll bar.

Leave the wish bone bushes if they are not worn dont touch them imo.

I have been told if you poly bush the wish bones it trasmits vibrations thru the car.

mike r told me to ploy the rear beam bushes and the anti roll bar but replace the trailing arm bushes with original ford bushes.for the best set up for handling. i had the full poly bush set already though and the original ford bushes are damn expensive too.not that thats major but at the time i already had the full bush kit so it seemed stupid not to use it.
for me im dure it will be fine as im never going to track it so i doubt i'd even notice the difference like mike.

Do NOT fit these, not only do they vibrate, but they wear out really quickly and will need replacing every few thousand miles even with normal road use.

To add to thsi further andy, they wear out fast because the standard one doesnt have any bushes in it at all, its a spherical bearing. So essentially, what you are asking is:

Should i remove my original zero tolerance high tech spherical bearings, and fit some round pieces of soft rubber in their place?

Hope that helps.

Mine are fine Andy and ive had no problems or the slightest vibration, you can drive mine next week at the meet (if dry) if you want and see what you think, i know 2 BIG people on here have said not to but how much do they actually move to wear out???? hardly at all.

With solid engine and box mounts, it adds little more vibration than normal

I've just had my entire front and rear end poly bushed. Maybe noticed a tiny bit of vibration, but seems good to me.

That does not sound good about replacing them every few thousand miles tho, as there a nightmare to fit

On the rear, only change the main beam bushes and the ARBs, under no circumstances put poly bushes on the rear trailing arm bushes (2 inner and 2 outer) .

Default Poly bush?

After reading the above posts, I'm slightly confused over what is the best thing to do. I bought a full set of Powerflex bushes a while back and haven't got round to fitting them yet.
Can someone please confirm which is the better thing to do, and is there any chance of some photo's to show what goes where?

Cheers, Gez

Why under no circumstances Mike, im curious now? i spoke to a few people off here whilst doing my underside resto recently and nobody said not to change them for poly items, and as has been said above one of the sides to the rear arms is discontinued so what choice have you got

Ive just done mine and honestly theyre fine, poly bushed rear ARB but put the standard ford main beam bushes back in as i was told very reliably that they were the best bushes available and that ford spent a lot of time in there development.

Andy, another sugestion then

why not get a fully adjustable rear beam, then just fit decent poly bushes to the anti roll bar and the actually beam mounts!?

what did you put in the trailing arms Mart?

the trailing arms are the ones that are the best bushes available and thats had alot spent within there development, as they are speherical bearings.
i know they are quite alot more expensive than the poly's but id fit those 100% over polys.

Marty,
You have got them round the wrong way, it's the main beam bushes that should be changed and the trailing arm bushes retained . You were either told incorrectly or misinterpretted what they said .

All you have to do is read Stu's statement and if you know anything about engineering, you will swap the standard beam bushes for poly items and the trailing arm ones back to the OE spherical joints . Mind you, I don't think it will matter too much, loading it on and off a trailer .

I'm confused at your confusion, as it has been explained several times in this thread - and the reasoning behind it .

However, for the hard of reading, DO NOT REPLACE THE OE TRAILING ARM BUSHES WITH POLY ITEMS .

Trailer!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont you swear at me Mr Rainbird

thats one thing i dont do!! instead i spend nearly 3 hours cleaning it at each show when its got wet

Anyway it would appear ive done mine the wrong way round then as i have poly bushes in the swing arms and the standard ford rubber bushes in the beam, but considering i do 2k miles roughly a year im not that fussed. I couldnt keep the bushes in the trailing arms as they would have melted when they were powder coated, and because one of them wasnt available ( or so i was told by ford) i had no other option but to poly bush them.

ive had to poly bush mine as i already had them and i needed it doing so it was drivable to get to harvey's. if i couldve done the oe at the time i wouldve.

so what happens if you get an adjustable ream beam?do they run different bushes completely? or are they all poly or standard ford style?

what do we do now we cant get them from ford then?

They use Rose Joints inplace of the inner & outer bushes depending on which beam you buy.

The main prob is the metal sleeve moves around in the poly bushe in the arms by squashing the poly bush.

You can see the effects if you strap the car down tight on a rolling road.
