Old fords and electrical problems go together like bangers and mash The dash mounted bulb warning lamps coming on is a common fault and is usually down to a dodgy connection in the multiplug that connects to the tail light. If the nearside warning lamp flickers or comes on then disconnect the multiplug on that side and check the male connection, usually a spade terminal is bent or verdigried, give it a clean, apply some electrical contact grease to the spades and then reconnect, similairly if its the drivers side follow the same procedure.
The engine management light is a different fault altogether and someone else may be able to help you with that

Electrical Contact Grease... this sounds like what I need for my corroded fusebox terminals (previous owner broke the fusebox lid catch and never replaced it doh), is this stuff available from Halfrauds etc?

If its just the rear light warning lamps that flicker on and off, or remain on even after you've depressed the brake pedal after starting the car, then another place to look is on the brake pedal itself, there is a switch mounted against the brake pedal up under the drivers footwell, if this has become detached or loose from its push and twist mounting it can cause these problems as well. If the warning unit is flashing door open as well as light faults then its more likely to be the dash unit itself that's faulty rather than door sensors or bulbs, although it has to be said that bad earths on a car can cause very strange electrical gremlins. If it was my car that had these problems , i would try to find a replacement dash warning unit from a local breakers or scrap yard and swap it over, you may find that cures the problem

I had similar probs on my 3dr cossie , when i put main beam on the engine coughed & the alternator light glowed, also when indicating the car map thing on the dash used to flash on & off with the indicators, also had rear tail lights diming when indicacting. All my problems were being caused by the multiblock connection underneath the steering cowling where it goes into the ignition switch the block had melted & was causing a drop in voltage (back feeding on main beam). Cut it out & put a more meaty connector in to take the ampage & its all sorted. Just want to renew the ignition switch for a 100% job as it may have done some damage to this aswell but Ford don't do one for a 3dr anymore, only the saff, but 3dr has an extra bit on it for the electric aerial to go up & down when switching ign off/on.

Simon

Good luck mate
