For class rules its a NA 1.6 VVC twin cam Lotus Elise lump but its mated to my Ford straight cut S1 gearbox so it still runs all Ford standard shafts etc.

i would imagine the steel cvh would do for starters!
as far as a very fast driveable motor goes i'm guessing the 2.3 duratec would be a very good option as it would need minimal psi to see good power when in a lightweight S1

just use a steel cvh and spend money on making sure all bits are top notch, get a good turbo and good management with a good cam/port. you could get close to 300bhp easily.
as for cost, a 2.1zvh would make 300bhp pretty easily, or better a full zetec conversion.

i have just done the interior for a rally'd esort mk 2, it has a rx7 rotary engine in it n carbs, its running 230bhp at the mo but is going tobe running 300 when finished. The engine is tiny and one person can lift it in there own!! you would have to go rwd but it would bevery different. The performance/bhp per weight is awsome, it came second in its 1sr rally! would of won but the clutch was slippin
