My car is making a strange noise which seems to be coming from the back of the turbo. The car drives fine, coming on boost as expected. It has been making this noise since I bought the car (Dec last year) but its really starting to annoy me. Its like a tappy sort of sound and is only present upon acceleration. Any ideas what it could be ?

erm, its quite hard to describe, I suppose its a bit like that, but wouldn't be quite as tinny ???

 

what turbo is it? is it a metallic sound?

 

Can you hear it with the bonnet up when you rev it?

 

Its just the standard turbo. Yes you can hear it with the bonnet up (quite loudly) and also from the drivers seat

sounds like the wastegate penny rattling mine done it until i pre-loaded the actuator

 

Could be lots of things, my car had a rattle, and had loads of new bits by the previous owner to try and cure, it went when I did up the long bolt on the alternator to stop it rattling!!

You sure the exhaust isn't blowing where it joins the turbo?

 

As above - that was all my mates was.
