right after coming back from ford fair this year and having no car to show for the first time ive decided i want to buy anouther rs as a daily driver to replace my knackered £500 mondeo im driving around in at the moment. My last two decent fords were a escort mk6 rs2000 (which i dont want anouther) and a mk1 escort(id love anouther but wouldnt get one for the money i have which is around 3k) so ive been thinking of getting a escort rs turbo or a fiesta rs turbo I have a few general questions that i hope some of you may be able to answer.
1.) for those of you who do drive one every day (im guessing not many) how are they to live with?
2.) there getting old now how easy is it to get the uncommon parts that break do ford still sell much?
3.) would i get a decent rs turbo with mint bodywork for 3k?
sorry if the questions sound stupid as i dont really know much about fiesta/escort rs turbos and there doesnt seem many for sale on here at the moment to see what price they go for ideally id like to buy one that someone has really looked after as i know a lot may have had a dubious past. Thanks in advance for any advice.

i drive mine every day and its fine, good on petrol (depends how you drive), pretty easy to get parts ebay ford breakers and yes you would get a decent one for 3k just make sure u check it from top to bottom and make sure it has a FSH
If you look after them, change bits that are common to go, generally service it well and keep ontop of things (not to mention buy a decent one to start with) get it set up properly! then their is no reason you cant use it as an every day car!
mine lay up for 3 years, I virtually serviced it, jumped in and abused it for a year and it never missed a beat!

like people have said look after them and there good,
my old one i had for about a year and drove it every day and once i had sorted the problems from the other person it was reliable as any normal car,
so i ened up buying another after i sold my last one lol

Yep I certainly agree with this chap just one thing make sure it has a f.s.h with it.

Used my series 2 everyday for two years, It was 239brake and was fine. Has the usual problems, starter motor, cold start valve, plugs etc but nothing that ever kept it off the road and looking back now it was a bloody good everyday motor. Didnt drink fuel unless you were booting it everywhere. You could do far worse, go for it.

like evrybody has said make sure its good to start with and maintain it well and you shouldn't have problems. mines the opitimie of a shitun though always dead
thats what happens when you buy with your heart not your head

Mine is costing me 30ppm even when 'set-up' and being driven off boost at all times, its EFI though so different from the escorts, but you should take this in to consideration. also its hard to get any advice on here these days about them as they're not a evo, scooby or BMW.
JAmes.

My answers
1) Impossible
2) Very easy to get hold of (thank fuck, cos you'll need alot of them)
3) There are very few 'decent' RST's about now, and the ones that are go for silly money.
My advice, don't use a 20 year old car thats been THRASHED for 19.8 of them as a daily drive

All comments sound pretty fair tbh, and when mine was on the road i had no probs with it, and i used evrey day for about 4 mounths but that was just on a chip (180bhp)
The only thing i will say is, how far do you travell for work? Reasons being sitting in traffic and that can be a pain, and also IF anything does decide to go wrong, you can always count on local transport lol

my trip to work is around 10 min i basicaly drive out of my garden up the motorway and im there im more bothered about buying one with no rust than one thats really tuned most of the comments seem positive though so i think ill start looking about and see what money there going for doesnt seem to be many fiestas about anymore though.
I'd go for an S2 with limited mods.
Running big power will mean more things to go wrong and less useable.
Have a decent alarm on the thing as they are so easy to knick and get one that is rot free as possible and mechanically good over mint condition, as it is bound to pick up stone chips, dents and scratches in everyday use.
Look to companies like need2insure (ask for Paul) as they do classic policies so you could insure it fully comp for as little as £200 a year.
