Default Are there two United Kingdoms?

I was just reading the threads a few weeks back about the UK and "Who is spending cash at the moment" and everyone was spending money like it's going out of fashion. Now I read "Current Financial Situation" now everyone is on the bread line and can't afford to live. Where is this other UK? It can't be the same one...............................

The vast majority earn between 11-16k even though the national average is meant to be about £22.000.

wages have gone up
the price of living has gone up more
30 years ago my dad bought a house and he was payiing out 1 weeks salary for his mortgage, £65
15 years later when it was up and finished, it related to him paying 1 days wages for the mortgage, £65

i got a mortgage and i pay nearly a months salary on it, £1400
and getting a £500 payrise on average a year doesn't really make the same impact

therefore, if people had bought all their houses way way back in 1978, we would all have more money to spend now

thank you
