The Full fat models are group 16 insurance, the cup's are group 17.
MPG wise, on the motorway it will do 40-43mpg at a steady 80 ish, can get it towards 50mpg if your willing cruise around at 50-60mph
Around town its in the low 30's, 32-34 ish for me as a guide,
On the track around 20ish, although i guess this totally depends on your driving style.

According to any diagnostics its had so far, theres nothing wrong with it.
According to the onboard computer I was getting roughly 38mpg on a run in mine. I do remember thinking that it seemed very good on fuel though!!
At Bedford - I got roughly 90 miles of track abuse to a full tank!! LOL

i used to get mostly 23mpg out of our old full fat 172 but mostly round town and country roads
never made more than 27mpg with me driving although the missus with town and motorway used to average 45mpg !!!
i had a 51 reg 172 sport and that was ace on fuel, no matter how it was ragged it never went below 25mpg, and driving sensibly (under 80mph and 4k rpm) at always did 30 to 36mpg.
i then sold it to my brother and he tuned it to 197bhp with a yozasport exhaust and decat, matched inlet, remap, and air recirculation removed and it now does 34 around town, with 46 to 48 on the motorway at 70mph. he normally gets between 340 to 360 miles to just under 50 quid of fuel.
i wish i'd never sold that car.

Spikester...
My 182 I got 280 miles MAX to a full tank- was about 45ish then but on the up shot I chased Tiffs mate in his Chipped S3 and he wasn't pulling on me to an indicated 135- on a private test track!
On the down side the build quality is about as shite as I have ever experienced and selling it may prove difficult as theres about a million and yours prob wont have magnetised a branch of halfrauds to the rear end.
Ace car though- just make sure its got decent tyres or they dont turn in for shit!

going by the prices and i want a cheap fun car i probably now go for a phase 1,
it's either that or a a gti6 306,
but even though there loads forsale, they are got something wrong over out of my price range
why cant they leave them fooking std

GTi6 dont steer round one corner properly- I drove one once and immediatly hated it.. Quick, fun and more practical- but just as chaved up and good ones are harder to find.
Mines got an improved exhaust and I get around 32-34 around town too. Just for the hell of it I cruised from Exeter to the Severn bridge at 60mph once and actually managed 50 mpg exactly... then I speeded up and it dropped back to the usual 42. Its my day car and its great
