go for 5.1 if you can and give the system a good clean out whilst your at it

 

Thanks. I was really asking what the factory would have put in as I want to top it up at this moment and as my car came from Italy the hand book is hard to understand as "I no speakee Italiony"

 

Dot 4 I would presume. But if you were to change it, go for dot5.1

 

Most likely back then DOT3, but all the different dot's mix, they have to be able to.
I too would use 5.1, but DON'T use any race stuff unless changing it very regular, as it absorbs moisture much more readily than others.

May be I am misinformed as I was told that you can mix 4 and 5 but must not be mixed with 3
