This appears to be a change to your terms and conditions and, as such, I don't think it can be imposed without agreement.

I'd certainly talk to your union or someone who knows about employment law.

their vans to do with as they want. i wouldnt say its a change to your terms and conditions, more an aid for them to check that you are sticking to the terms you have already signed up to.

Changing with the times mate, every company is tightening its strings atm. Shit for the worker good for the books if they can knock off 1 or 2 hours pp per day etc...

Just take your time and don't finish early.

what does your contract say re: working hours?

and are you bunking off early because you have finished your allocated workload for that day or because you're taking the piss?

also is your pay at an hourly rate or at a fixed rate that (ie what figure is used to calculate the other) again, whats in the contract

and there lies the problem .what the union gets you the company want to claw some back. they will be playing it bang on the law but not being as easy on you with your hours actually worked. no change in conditions as far as i can see just making you work to your already standing agreement.

they can use the tracker to moniter the times you work .. if your paid from 8.30 am till 5.30 pm then not alot you can do about it if your salaried .. however if you are hourly paid with no fixed working times then start looking at the european laws regarding total number of hours worked... as 9.5 is exceding the ammont allowed ...
slow down .. work slower .. amazing on how quickly they get the arse if jobs dont get done.... i know this from past experience...

.know what ur saying about slowing down but it's just the way we work.....it'll take time to adjust..........start having breaks etc.........as for "hours worked".....that'll not do my pay any good as i work about 60hrs a week....

what does your CONTRACT say? as there's no way it say "you will work 60 yours a week"

we can all spout bollocks and assumptions, but until we know what the contract says we're all guessing

ok then the answer is quite frankly YES ofcourse they can monitor your working hours and pay you appropriately

your contract IS relevant tho as it will dictate how you can deal with the situation

here is my take on it

a few years ago, we were all put on annualised hours, which said we would be paid for a 48 hour week, 8 days bank holiday and 25 days annual holiday a year and the pay would be the same every month, regardless of what hours we worked
if, at the end of the year we had worked more than hours required (2496) we would get that as overtime
in addition to this, the drivers would get a salary increase of between Ł3k and Ł4k
some of the drivers had a hissy fit and said they would stick to their old contract which paid them overtime after they did 40 hours a week
the end result is that the guys on annualised hours tend to work 6 or 7 hours a day and finish at 1 or 2 in the afternoon
the guys on the old contract work until 5 or 6 (starting at the same time) and earn around Ł150 extra per month
these guys also have to complete their time sheets very accuratly, beacuse they are checked out very thourouly
everyone gets 45 minutes in the morning to sort their route out and 5 minutes at the end of the day to drop off any paperwork back at the depot
anything over this is deducted from their hours as there is no reason to work any longer, most guys are out in the morning in 10-15 minutes
the guy on the old contract (there are only 2 now and only one of them is causing problems) now "fiddle's" his hours by insisting that he washing teh van in the mornings before he goes out and then again when he comes back to add to his overtime rate, therefore he can show that he hasn't left the depot until he's washed his van (which account for the hour and 15 minutes he stays there in the mornings) and doesn't leave until he's washed the van when he gets back (another hour added to his day)
there are 12 drivers who have not yet signed over to the new annualised contract because they feel that they will be worse off
so they use their trackers to proove that they are at the depot for teh hours they are claiming for
so, the guy who signed the annualised contract works for an average of 7 hours a day (147 hours a month on average) and takes home Ł1412 a month, regardless of him being on holiday, off sick, whatever
the guy who hasn't take home around Ł1550 a month and works an average of 10.5 hours a day (or 220.5 hours for teh same month, i keep accurate records and would give you a much better average if i were at work)
so, for being an arse and staying out all day and working his arse off he's earning Ł1.88 an hour for his extra hours
all because he's got this thing about the company tracking his every movement

thing of a bloke with tin foil on his head talking about being abducted by aliens and you get the picture

the one thing i will tell you about is the level of tracking they may have, ours, amongst other things, tells you when the ignition has been turned on and off, how long you have been idling for if it's been exccesive, any unscheduled stops durin ghte day, any harsh braking in case goods have been damaged in transit, where you have broken the speed limit, how many satalites were tracking you at that time, how fast you were going down to 6 decimal places, the updates are show in real time and they are kept on the server from day one when the trackers are on, disabling the tracker shows up as a red indicator, if you disable the tracker yourself by simply unplugging it, the next time it's plugged in it all updates itself automatically and, most importantly of all for your case, it tells you when you have reached your destination and when you've left it

Fuck reading that...lol
It sounds like where your union has got involved the company is losing money with the pay rise and they basically have to replace it.
In with one hand out with the other.

the short version is:
offered new contract with Ł3-4k payrise
one driver doesn't take it
works extra hours
extra hours have to be prooved
he works the extra hours and get the equivalent of Ł1.88 an hour for those extra hours he works
he works 3 or 4 hours a day longer than the other drivers
he's a twat

Just make sure you keep accurate records and make em fuckin accurate- and check with what you're being paid.

Trackers are great but have reliability issues.... I used to fit this sort of device and had plenty of services for faulty boxes- not faulty installs.
