I spent the first 24 hours of it being down constantly hitting the refresh button of my browser solely interrupted by moments of utter dispair where I tried to cut my wrists instead...
We had to take the board down for several hours this evening while the database server churned through some data. As it turns out, the database server we paid for isn't the one we got - in fact, it's WAY below what they were supposed to rack for us! We're going to get our hosting provider to upgrade the DB server to what we ARE paying for. This means additional downtime, probably on Friday 7/18 or Monday 7/21. Sorry about this, but it's necessary to accommodate future growth.
We regret the inconvenience, and hope to put this all behind us very soon!!!

Infact forget it, carry on as you were i've never been a fan of wasting my own time.
there is nothing about the 2 days this weekend unless i have missed something
as far as i'm concerend, it's been broken for the past 2 days
so i did other stuff in the mean time
the only reason i missed it was that i had a few pms i needed to read and a question for that bloke stavros, hardly the end of the world though eh

When IB bought Passionford they agreed to host it in the UK for no other reason than to ensure it remained fast for the majority of members as they are predominantly residing in the UK. So they bought managed hosting with 24hr server support and a huge spec list to accomodate future growth.
There have been one or two glitches since and it has transpired the hardware paid for is NOT the hardware recieved. Plans are in place to rectify that now. However, that doesnt cover Sunday. Sunday morning the server shut down, nobody seems to know why, and importantly, nobody seems to have noticed, hence it stayed offline for some time.
The problem was accentuated because IB are in the USA and of course were not open for business on Sunday, so when they came to work and went online to check their many many servers (they own MOST of the worlds biggest forums now), which was around 5PM UK time on Monday, all they could do is serve a suport ticket to teh UK hosting company and await them fixing the problem since they of course have no direct access to the server hardware. The repairs took half a day. You know the rest.
After discussion yesterday, I now have access to the hosting company myself and will be able to inform them of any downtime that they have not spotted right away. That should save this problem happening again.
Hopefully this answers all of your questions, and also explains why:
A) You werent informed of downtime PRIOR to it happening.
B) You werent told why it had happened afterwards until now.
As for Passionford being "As shit as before", im sorry our efforts arent good enough for you, but thankfully the majority of people seem to think IB have done an excellent job of turning PF around and making it fast and reliable again. Me included.

For me it has been worse than before they took over what with the two occassions (i saw) that it went down for days and the bigger issue of it not loading the site for several minutes at random periods, which went on for months. I guess we'll have to see after a few years of it being in the new hands so we have a fair timeline to compare.
Just the views of my experience.

the average amount of downtime may be the same though
before it used to zone in and out a lot
but now it tends to go down for days at a time
not knocing hem, if someone screwed them over their servers then there's nothing really they can do, but i would have assumed that someone was checking the stuff they'd paid for
at least it's not like ebay when you say "it never turned up"
but as long as things are sorted then things are sorted, peole were on the verge of calamity when it was down

it annoys me that you all jump on the bandwagon and slag IB off the minute anything goes wrong but say fook all when everything is working tip top for months on end!!
I work in I.T and the only thing anyone ever remembers is the one 'token' time in a year the e-mail server goes offline for a couple of hours.
The fact we successfully manage many hundreds of gigabytes, multiple systems, PCs, networks etc..etc.. for the other 365 days doesn't count for shit.

So to whoever it concerns, thanks very much for keeping and managing the board - without which I would be forced to work for a living.
