1500 - 2000 is about right for the whole lot mate but like anything else depends who you take it to. do you know any good painters in your area?? get a few quotes first and ask to see there work before you commit your pride and joy to a garage you dont know.
but saying that i paid 2k at a garage i know well for a respray on my old s1 and that was inside and out engine bay etc etc, that was 5 years ago so it helps if you are friendly with a paint shop. could of cost joe public a lot more than 2k

Best of taking it to a few bodyshops and get a quote. No one will be able to guess a price just by what your saying!

age old argument - its the same with alot of trades/ labour

it really depends on who's spraying it for you, an expensive job is not always the best! - its like plasterers, you get a shit plasterer who charges you £1000 but you can get a brilliant plasterer that charges you £500

the key is in prep work or so i'm told

you are best off going with a recommendation rather than the price

depends on what finish you want

having been in the trade, its best to fork out about 3k+ for a drive in - drive out job, then that way your paint worked would be like glass

i suppose another thing to consider is how much of the work are you going to do yourself... eg stripping/refitting the cars interior/engine/windows etc, lots of labour to be included in the price if youre not doing it yourself.

I got a Email evey night of Al with photo of work he had done that day, i have over 400 photos from him ! here are just a few, his work is outstanding, concorse winning. His is a one man band, he works on his own, does not have a phone in the workshop and no chairs to sit on so he works like a dog from the time he walks in untill home time.

Fantastic Bloke

That photo was after the G3 it has had G10 now and awating the "detailer" to come and do the final finish, the photos dont do it justice!

All the glass was taken out and i brought a new front and rear screen.

idimagine it may vary considerably, my mate who sprayed mine charged me around £1500 for all the work when he quit his job and he and another mate whosa panel beater seem to spot dents etc i dont/didnt and if you lookin my resto he done alot of work for that, but generally id say over 2k for a fairly decent job inmy opinion

i have got quotes i was seeing what people think is a fair price, perhaps i should have worded it differently but i just wanted an idea of what people would pay to judge against my quote.

it will be a while before i get it done if at all as im still deciding if the car is worth spending the money on

thanks for the replies everyone there is quite a variation on prices for what a job such as this is worth, opinions wise of course

cheers

1000 - 6000 you pay for what you get 100 per panel gun finish take it leave it i dont care what ppl think to weld a rear arch on seam welded with very little filler is gonna cost simple

Looks a nice job on the escy, my painter won't even allow filler on the premises, lead loads everything, proper old fashioned panel beater as well.

way i see it unless the car is gonna live in a cocoon and be put on show every 36th of july as long as its a good spray job then its ok, can be used and abused daily without having to worry about the 10k spray job

my thoughts exactly, the car is my daily driver so its going to pick up marks here so i would be really paranoid all the time if i spent to much

Dont assume that an expensive paint job will always be the best, because thats not always the case. Ive known £2000 paint jobs be far better than £5000 ones. Go on recommendations and ask to see some of their work in progress and then go and see the finished result. If your happy, then go for it.

Its all down to the painter and the pride they have in their work. Get a bodyshop/painter who doesnt care, regardless of cost, and it will show in the end result.
