Default Mini/BMW experts

Okay - so it would appear the blipper for my Mini is on the blink.

Obviously the battery in the keyfob is running low, as I haven't changed it in 18 months, and now it wont unlock/disarm the car.

BMW say that when the battery goes, it needs replacing and reprogramming - is this correct? Is it something that can be done without paying main dealer prices, as so far I've been quoted £162 + vat!

I know we have a few BMW employees/experts on here - any experience/ideas etc....

Keys are roughly about £70 & £45 to code it.they charge off the car. battery isnt changeable so when it goes on the fuck its a new key im afraid & you have to take all keys you have when they are being coded.

No point asking on the Mini forum, the only tech questions there would be the blokes asking how to clean spunk off the seats after they have farted

Dont get a TT mate, we have a TT 225, its a shameful shameful car, in every way.

And tho its not as fruity as a Mini, its still totally hom, even my mates brother, who is gay, said the other day "Is that yours then?" I said no, not a chance. He then said "Yeah I was gonna say, its a bit handbag isnt it"
Word for word, from a bummer as well.

Well if Pon read the manual for the car it says use BOTH keys every 6 months as they charge up from the ignition barrel

So how is that a rip off?

Somebody once told me how they coded his E36 318 key. Apparently it's something ridiculously easy like sticking it in turning it on and off/pressing a few buttons in a certain way and hey presto. Try searching for a guide or how to on doing it. There's nothing special in coding a key I don't think, just a certain sequence.

as they are powered when in the ignition barrel, can you not change the battery with it in situ and it should keep the code?

Two buttons Alex.

And as for suggesting I read the manual........ the car may be gay, but I'm still blokey enough not to ever read an instruction manual!

Nothing wrong with the TT IMO. It's an okay car to run about in, and I have plans to go racing next year, so I will still have a proper performance car of sorts.

Alex - you got any update on this?

Why would you need to rotate the keys to get them to hold a charge? I've only ever used 1 key.

Have changed the battery, and done the button pressing sequence nonsense, but to no avail.

Main dealer only then?

You should consider reading it. You'll learn a lot more about the Mini that you ever thought.

Thanks.

Alex - let me know if there are any other alternatives as the car only ever came with 1 key and one master key (the master not having the blipper).
