Default cutting braided hoses

as per the goodridge type stuff.

i picked up 10 metres of ptfe lined hose today for the fuel system, and gonna start cutting it to length tomoz.

so whats the best way?

wrap the part to be cut in masking tape, hold in a vice, and then crack out the angle grinder?

should do it no?

Bind it with tape as you said but you can use a hacksaw rather than a grinder.

on fine braided stuff like ptfe i use a dremel with cutting disc to get through the metal then a stanley knife to cut the pipe, just have to watch it doesnt fray,as the fittings will be a bitch to fit.

or use a dremmel type instrument to cut them

the tape will stop the ends from poking out and yes, when they stick you, it will hurt like fuck

but they also keep the ends tidy so that you can mark where you want to cut and keep everything together

i found that the angle grinder method is better than the hand saw method but i have also used a bit of pipe inside to stop the hose from deforing when you are half way through teh cut

Earls have a few videos on youtube demoing methods.

I havent used it myself, but they say to set the hose on some soft metal ( Alu etc ) and whack the damn thing with big hammer and a sharp chisel !!!!

masking tape and hacksaw.................tried everything else.

used dremel if it went wrong i.e to tidy up the frayed bits.

BTW you will make a mess of your hands

I found cutting it with the grinder and a nice 1mm disk gave the best result every time, hacksaw worked but was easier to muck it up and make the fittings harder to assemble. Having said that mine was 200 hose not ptfe so it may be different

DO NOT FORGET TO SLOT THE THREADED FEMALE END ON BEFORE YOU FIT THE OLIVE

Its the most frustrating thing ever when you realise how much of a cock you are for forgetting....

one tip i got told - dont forget to blow out the crap from the hose with an airline etc as the rubber dust gets right up inside the pipe if you cut it with a slotting disc.
