Default Do I break or soldier on?

Right as many people know I sold my FRST the other week and swapped the insurance on to my Escort.

Took her in for the MOT and unfortunately teh tin worm has been busy while she's been laid up in the garage. Now she needs new inner and outer sills as well as welding to the front passenger floor and rear chassis rails.

Love the car to bits and she goes well but I'm just not sure I can justify the outlay required to do the job to my standards.

So do I accept she won't turn a wheel again this year and strip her right back ready to sort all the grot and get the dash flocked and go a bit mad or do I hang up my RS overalls and call it a day and recover what I can through selling her in bits?

if its a car you dont rely in....ie a weekend toy, then get it stripped and welded up, you have had it long enough!

my old ERST failed its mot on a rotton floor pan and chassis legs, so i stripped the interior did all the prep work grinding etc, and then took it to a guy on sandridge lane (recommended by rob) and he did all the welding of new plates. then i jjust painted the inside and undersealed the underneath and put it all back togther

all in all it probably cost me about Ł250 all in and a few weekends work

if it was anyne else i'd say sell it and buy a proper car.
but i know how much yuo love that RS Turbo, and it's perfect for you, something like an M3 won't make you as happy.

so, fix it

get it welded mate, theres no rush if its not used everyday, plus summer is gone already so plenty of time to get it done til next summer.
Also if you need a hand welding it up or anything then i live local to you and dont mind giving you a hand!

cars are only welded together anyway, if repaired properly you would never know,

lashing patches on isnt the answer....

Strip it, and sort it properly!

Be warned though, you WILL find more rott once it's stripped!

when you say your gonna strip it, do you mean stripping it to a bare shell and restoring it or jus strip the bits off requiered to weld it? I'd be more inclined to do it properly, do it once, do it right

If you can't part with the car fix it, if not break it or sell it on. Personally i'd save it.

I know what you mean mate, even though somethings been done and done well, you yourself always have it in the back of your mind that its been done.

Exactly.... and the thing is, once they start going like that, you'll be forever chasing the rust.

Mine was welded up plenty well enough, but I didn't want what was a very fast car to be comprised of a powerful engine and a rusty knackered shell.

steve in reality its like a old faithfull pet

it should be put down IMO as soon as you finish,, then what happens if the engine lets go ( this is YOU driving remember,,,,, ive been out with you a few times !!! )

BUT as jim says,,,, the cars PERFECT for you,,,,, you are basically the rolling stones of boy racers, so will NEVER change

besides what you gonna get for it stripped anyway ?

but then again how much do you use it also ( how long has it been off the road ?)

if you need any parts for it then please dont be afraid to ask me as ive got a few contacts still for ford staff rates for me AND pattern parts also mate

think about whats the RIGHT thing for you,, breaking it is tbh but its more than just a car to you im sure

WAs going to say the same as Ginge - its defo made decent power, but in essence isn't it a boggo spec engine? (still on standard rods, T3 and with a worked head?) - Think you'd be better off stripping her, and getting her restored!
