Massive thanks to Porkie
Well, ive always been very vocal about what my favourite ever modified car is, and thats Lee's 3 door, in fact I even gave that answer 3 years ago when my car was on the front of fast ford and they asked me for the article.
Lee took me out in at combe about a year or so ago, and I got a drive of it on the road after when we all went to Rentons house, but TBH driving it in a convoy of cars and traffic isnt really a good chance to enjoy it.
Tonight he let me take it out at the essex RSOC meet though, up the dual carriageway I puched it up through the first 4 gears till it popped off the limiter and then afterwards onwards to a trip down some country lanes, which of course has always been my favourite place for driving anyway being a somerset boy.
WOW!
What a car!
Absolutely fantastic, that new GT30 turbo has absolutely made it, it was always quick but now its just SO damned responsive, it really does go like a bastard in that sort of environment (easy to lose track of how quick things are on big wide racetracks or dual carraigeways etc), and it just feels like such a well put together package, handles great, the brakes pull up hard but totally straight, that really is the ultimate cosworth IMHO, I know most people would probably prefer Martins, but I wouldnt, thats still my favourite car, and I suspect it always will be, relatively simple spec but SO well executed.
Thanks again Lee, probably wasnt a big deal to you giving up ten minutes of your car like that, but certainly was to me.

i always prefered the escort over the 3 door, but since seeing it in the flesh and seeing it on track at combe i now much prefer the sierra in looks, the way it goes and sounds!
this is now my favourite car let alone just fords
i bet it was a hoot driving it?

PMSL, Helen yes, I stalled it twice trying to get out the carpark, I keep forgetting it sounds like its doing more revs than it is when pulling away, after that though it was easy cause I just didnt slow down enough for it to need to pull away again

My favourite Cossie ever too, and once of my fave cars ever full stop. I've driven it a few hundred miles I reckon over the years, its just the coolest thing ever.
And again, ive driven much more expensive (640bhp Techart GT Street, well over quarter of a mil) and faster (Dragon RX7, 1000bhp and 160mph within a quarter mile), but the 3dr is just SO ace, I love 3dr's.
Stupid thing is ive never driven it since its been on a GT30, always been on the GT35, and im sure its LOADS more fun on the 30, but even on the 35 it was spastically awesome, if a lot of effort.
Fuck load easier to drive than my old Cossie was too, hydraulic clutches are a godsend!

Its night and day different on the GT30, its lost a tiny bit of topend I guess, but its on boost just SO soon, his rev counter is a stack 0-4-10 one, and its on boost before its even on the main gauge, and the lack of lag when you back off and back on from a corner is nutty for "only" a 2 litre engine, that really is the perfect spec for sensible money, still on standard crank and rods!
VERY cool car

wow what a genuinely nice thing to do, im not certain if I had such a car I would be willing to let others drive it due to my own concerns.
What a nice fella, with such awesome rides.... Wish he was a tosser though as it would make my jealousy easier to deal with

Although it is nice to see a generous person these days, gives you a little faith in human nature
Fair play Porkie

I also drove it last night and what a machine it is
i stalled it twice or 3 times but once i got going it is so strong. Acceleration is brutal and i had the shift lights on in 2nd and 3rd gear
Never went out in it on the 35 turbo but who needs one of them when the 30 does what it does. The car feels so complete, power, brakes, suspension and no interior and the all the noise just adds to it. Jim was in the passenger seat next to me. think he enjoyed it to.

Nice one lee & a big up to martin as well this car seems to get such a sore time by everyone & never a bad word said about it shows how well its built & looked after
Ironic how people prefer a car built and maintained by Martin over his own car hehe. I think he did too good a job with that one!
But that 3-door really is something special! The two Reyland cars were definitely my favourites of Combe!

Showing my age I guess, I've just always loved the 3 doors and still prefer them to escorts now.
Havent been in martins at full power but he did take me round in combe in it last year and it is of course an awesome car as well, but I just prefer Lee's, there is NO logical reason for that, martin's is better in every respect, but it just doesnt do it for me to the same extent as lee's.
soooooooooo wish i had gone now not seen this one in the flesh yet......
Glad everyone had a good night
.
already arranged getting to the next months one.hope everyone goes again lol
