After fitting a 4x4 head i noticed there is no hole for the temp sender and there is a fitting in the middle of the head not sure what its for. What is the best way round this i was thinking block the hole in the middle and drill and tap a new hole in the right place for the temp sender ?

 

this is a good question as i sense im goin to have the same problem as im ive just bought 1.

And the temp sensor is on a small bracket plate which seals over a section on the rear left (if you were sat in car) of the head, temp sensor goes in this flange, you're probably missing this plate over the hole???

That`s the oil feed for the turbo on the 4x4 I think? I believe this is from the block gallery on the 2wd. You have two sensors, one for the dash, one for the ECU. 2wd heads have one in the oval plate, and the smaller bronze one in the side of the head somewhere, while 4wd i think have the ecu sensor on the side in a big drilling, and the small bronze one I seem to remember is next to No.1 spark plug? Where you have the oval plate on the 2wd head, i think this is blank on 4wd heads?(definately on small turbo escos). Hope this helps!!

As said union is turbo oil feed, but 2wd oil feed is better, as oil is cooler,(not being heated up on it's travel all the way through the engine).
On 2wd the temp gauge sender is at front of head near turbo, the ECU temp sender is on the plate mentioned at the rear inlet side of head where the 1/2" water pipe joins on, this is ALSO the place where the 4wd has a temp gauge sender as well as the ecu sender, hence no hole in front of head turbo side.
So you can see if you can drill/tap a hole for temp gauge sender here in the 2wd plate or get a 4wd plate, as this already has it,

Ok so it will be safe to block the oil feed ? and the 4x4 plate should still be on the head never thought to look for a hole for the sender there i will check later tonight, thanks for the help.

 

Yes if you want to block the oil feed, just use a grub screw and some sealant.

Higher compression with a 4x4 head on a std 2wd bottom end even more if the heads been skimmed

Oh crap, i think the head has been skimmed once and the block looks to me like its been decked am i going to have problems ? didnt know they were higher compresion. not going crazy power standard at the moment then mabye stage 1.

 

It will just limit the boost you could run, but will be fine with stage 1 or three.

Thaks for the help. It was just under the dipstick bracket didnt realise it was there. Now it wont start it was getting late and i called it a night. will check for spark etc next time i at it.
