Default Noisey T5 Box On Idle

Just dropped a Cossie engine & box into a three door shell. Got it up and running but the gearbox appears to be noisey on idle, however it does disappear with the clutch down ??

The clutch appeared to have plenty of meat left on it, so I only replaced the clutch release bearing.

Any suggestions ????

Cheers

I would of said release bearing m8 but if you have changed it, may be faulty though.

Sounds like input shaft bearing to me also mate. Wouldnt say release bearing as that would be noisy when you press the clutch as thats when it engages. I had one T5 input shaft that wore the end away that goes into the spigot bearing...use to make a right racket, mangaged to swap it over for a decent one with out having to completly strip the box.

glad you thought the same

while you've got the box out you might as replace the spigot bearing too

change the seals aswell; this seller normally lists the inputshaft bearing but doesnt appear to have any listed; should be no more than £22, i bought one the other day

I'll second that call, again, even more so now you've said 'chattering sound'!

be a good excuse to give it a oil change; do the seals, and change input and spigot bearing. At least you know its done then

input shaft bearing, £18-22
spigot bearing, £10
Seals £8

if you want to go the whole hog, do the clutch cable too £15, as they are prone to stretching on the saffs
