The tax thing ive took in to account for,,but at the end of the day,you pay it once a year, and i aint fussed about that..

Its a everyday car,as i will have a "fun" car in the garage... I usualy hav a car from work every night,so will prob only be used on a week end,or if i go out on a night..

Well if that is the case and you don't give a crap about the fuel consumption or tax I would've chosen the S3.

Cooper S or Cupra R personally. Mini's are a great laff!

S3 feels slow compared to a Cupra R imo, essentially the same car apart from the 4wd...it does have better build quality than the Seat though, but you'd pay more for a car of the same age.

Hearts ALWAYS wanted me a S3,and as it shows in that table,if i can find 1,i can get a face lift model, that still falls in the "normal" tax bracket....

I have to say though Lee,there fuckin GREAT fun to drive, but i see at least 10 on the way to work EVERY day!!! thats whats puttin me off!!! How many Cupra R1s,or S3`s do you see...

I'd never have put the cooper S in the same league as S3 or Cupra or Golf.

have you driven one though? they are sooo much fun! they would easily outhandle all of the cars in the list, and if you get a Works or other tuned version they'll outdrag them too!

Image is a slight problem, but i think as long as it's an S, then it's not girly!

they are common for a reason, they are great cars and they hold their value so well!

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/542644.htm

and this, cheaper but more miles.

in all honesty though all of your choices are nice cars, you won't go far wrong with any!

That Hartge S looks the tits! Never been in a S before and never been in a mini full stop but personally I'd never consider the mini at all just don't like it. And when I said same league I meant more the cars your choosing as cupra, s3 an golf are 3dr and 5dr hatches/hot hatches with space, bit of class, basically bigger than a matchbox racer mini . I'd consider the cooper S more on par with the corsa VXR for example

The Golf all day long......but i am biased. I cannot rate mine enough, excellent car. Although i did test drive the Audi S3 and the Mini bfore i bought the Golf and in all honesty the Golf won hands down for me. For an all round every day car the Golf is great and the added bonus is its very cheap to run, tax and maintain. You can get alot more power from an off the shelf chip aswell

Even Stu really rates it and he is picky

One thing also about the S3 I think it has a lovely interior and I mate a guy once that I got chatting to and he showed me around his car which was a facelift S3 I think and it had a MINT recaro interior which I thought looked really really ace and he told me it was very comfy too. He had the 1.8T engine though.

IMO : -

S3 - Looking a little dated these days (imo) plus running costs !

Mini - To many around and rather girly and lack power

Golf - To boring

We have a winner Cupra R - Tunable , VW under the skin, looks better than all of the rest, usable everday

If you were going for the S3, Id say go for an S2 Coupe with proper 4x4 tranmission!
The S3 isnt that strong in that department....
S2 engine tuning scope is HUGE, and not that expensive either if you compare bang for buck, plus the transmission is bomb proof

Was gonna say 330D, but see quality cars are out of the equation
If Passat is too big then Golf 150.
