I have just blown the fkn gearbox again on another R1, what the hell is it with these bloody things, going to fix it and sell it, get something that will manage to do some wheelies without screwing the gearbox........

just got rid of a blade!!!! Busa too big......second r1 to do it!! only just got it from my mate who has owned it from new and looked after it, 7k on the clock!!! God damn it........gonna buy another blade, maybe an gsxr 750 k3-k4..

Probably just unlucky mate. Havnt really heard that much about gearboxes going that often on any jap bikes to be honest.

Go for a GSXR 750 next mate. I have a K6 750 and its bloody awesome. Handles like a dream and you can use the power much better than a 1000 imo, and ride it closer to its limits if thats your thing.

 

not heard any complaint about the r1 boxes mate and a close friend rides the shit out of his!!!has mild tuning also and hes very handy on it.maybe unlucky?

 

I know Lawnsy heat siezed the box on his in 4th doing the start/finish straight of the ring on the back wheel

my mates got a new shape R1, he uses it for track days ect and he aint done a box yet and my nieghbour has a R1 as a daily runner thats also never done a gearbox

the old mans had two r1's and an r7 and never had a problem with them, hes running nearly 200bhp through his current r1 yet still no problems.

maybe its just down to luck..

 

how hard are you on the box?!? never use the clutch?

i dont know of any boxes to go really!

 

maybe its cause your wheelie caused areas of the gearbox to not get oil?

 

Dont use the clutch alot, i must admit the bike is pretty much vertical when i am out on it. But I doubt that would cause it to damage the box due to no oil. I am pretty sure its going to be the same as last time, stripped a couple of teeth from second gear. So maybe pinging it up in second is doing it. Dunno, just severly pissed off i have managed to do another and i have only done a couple of thousand miles on it.

 

if you like being on one wheel so much mate, id recommend getting one of these.....

 

Not quite an R1 But my yzf600r Thundercat blew the box in second gear. The garage told me that yamaha boxes were prone to it. Mine used to miss 2nd gear when you were thrashing it in first and into second. it turned out to be something to do with the selector. It had snapped and jammed all the gears. they bought a modified part from the yam dealer and its been bob on ever since

Its a common problem on early R1s. I've just done mine too. The dogs wear and it won't stay in gear.

FYI the parts you will need to fx it including gaskets will come to Ł250 and it means engine out and cases split.

Yip, done it before mate, but going back to work on wednesday, just knocked down the garage! Going to drop it off with a mate and he's going to do it for me while i'm away. Still going to be pricey though.....

Yeah got a few but they are hosted on bebo, and i lost the fkn originals! Was planning on making a couple yesterday but i blew the thing up! Dont know how to get them back off bebo?!?!?! Anyway, i am alot quicker nowadays so that was the reason for making some more new ones.
