thinking of running my 1994 1.7 td astra van on a mix of cooking oil and diesel mix probably 25% cooking oil and 75% diesel to start with to see how it goes . has any one got any advice or tips having done this . do i need to thin the cooking oil with something ? i seem to remember someone saying you need to mix it with a small amount of white sprit or something any other advice would be helpful , i know i will need to declare this for tax purposes many thanks Paul.

Run it neat if you want to, I do on my mondeo 1.8TD, tescos Grapeseed oil is 97p a litre, same as veg oil near enough. Just mix it 50/50 if you want to be cautious, in the summer is much better for it as well. Don't need to declare tax either, just keep all your reciepts, as you are allowed 2500 litres a year before you have to start paying extra tax.
As already said no need to declare an till you have used 2500 litres in one year & whos to know when you have? I run my disco & zx on it, i norm run 75%oil 25% diesel with no problems what so ever...
If you buy in bulk you can norm get it a bit cheaper to

like i said i'm only trying a 75% - 25% mix in favor of deisal to start just cant seem to find the cheap cooking oil every one is on about
IME you get less MPG on the veg oil, so its probably DEARER like that, not to mention all the hassle of filling up on it, fuck knows why you bothered at all at that price.
looks like im off to tescos tomorrow

this time was just a experment to see how the van runs on it if its fine i will either sorce it at a cheaper price or see if the local chippy can help but if its a complete diaster then i'll keep filling up at the pump , besides the next lot will be from cash and carry

i was thinking of just staying around the kinda power i got but i've got a thinking if the bottom end is being done why not start the ball rolling for a bit more, and with steve at least know i can drop the car to him and it will be done as i have not got the time at the minute to get the engine out
thats fair enough mate... i know he's not a million miles away, but it seems like half way across the country when you've got a car on a trailer!
i'm half tempted to offer to rip it apart for you, but i think keily would kill me if i put ANOTHER dead ford in the garden

dodgy
i'll keep an eye on mine then! did they attempt to steal it (
)? or just take things from inside it?what exactly needs doing to it? sum up the whole job in a sentence or so

well attempt to steal it but all they go was my ultmate 80's cds from the glove box
they poped the door lock and smashed the ignishion plastics and took the ecu cover off , there is nothing in the car to nick the head unit has been out for months and the car has not moved for 2 yrs as for what needs doing to it ... it has a broken diff which i have a second hand replacement for it , a bottom end tao which has been dignosed as little ends so pistons need replacing ,but the 205 block that is in it has been lined on number 4 after a crack in the bore a few years back and the idle adjust does not work on the ecu which i have a replacement ecu for it . as well as it needing new brakes as its sat for so long.
so nothing too major really? just a thought about the brakes... they'll probably be seized, so instead of reconning or finding new 4 pots and rear calipers, why not go to red lodge or beck row scrappy and get some scorpio/4wd cossie brakes? they'll be cheaper off a scorpio
while you're at it, you could get the 20mm rear ARB from one too
diff change is easy - under an hour
ecu is easy - under half an hour
engine could be out in a couple of hours too

I buy bio of the local hippy lol, 75p a litre. Mix 30 litres of bio to £10 of diesel-it stinks on startup but no smoke........runs a treat and fot the saving I shall continue. Vectra Di

and it runs a hell of a lot better
