Following on from Chips thread would you say you wish you hadnt got into the car scene??

I wouldn't know some of the mates I know, inc you Dan if I didn't. So it has its ups and downs.
I do put my social life and friends first though before the car, without a doubt. The car is just a hobby to fill the gaps

Do I wish I never got into the car scene? No! I enjoy it. Well sometimes I don't when everyone else has better cars/more tuned than me!

No not for a minute, I get far more joy out of it than anything else. Dan, to be fair I wouldn't know you if it wasn't that that Sierra of yours, and you wouldn't know Kam/Cowie etc...
yep it has its ups and downs.
sometimes i have gone through periods where loads have gone wrong with the cars, which usually happens when i am going through a skint patch, and i have been tempted to knock it all on the head.
but generally its a total buzz and much more interesting than driving round in a boring normal car!

I bought John's old one mate, the moonstone Saff. LOVE it as well, apart from the growing list of minor things that are rapidly going wrong

Nope, I love knowing how things work in life, and designing new things, and im an adrenalin junkie to boot, I cant think of many other hobbies that give the same opportunity to be a scientist and a hooligan at once, and those are the two biggest aspects of my personality.
Before I was into engines, I was into home made explosives in a big way, and TBH these days I think that would land me in even more trouble with the old bill than speeding does

no not at all. The late teens/early twentys i spent most of my life pissed up shaggin owt that moved. Now im into my late twenties, settled down with a lil boy it stops me from being the piss head i was. I can actually see where my money is going instead of wasting it with a sore head in the morning........
exactly what i do, otherwise you could get too involved with cars IMO. Today for example i went down the workshop at 7.50am and got back at 8pm, so this weekend i'm out on the piss with mates
Well ive been lucky or sensible enough to own decent cars as good runners so never had to spend mega bucks to repair one or modify one, i once blew a Saff 4x4 up and couldn't afford a rebuild so swapped it for an Audi lol...but ive met some decent people through all car forums & clubs i use so no regrets no.
In response to your first post, I know I'd certainly have a lot less friends than I have now had I not been into my Fords.
I agree that the money spent is silly, but then so is the money that my old mates who weren't into cars sniff up their noses every weekend. At least I have something to show for my addiction lol

Benni.
I've never seen being into cars as a 'hobby'. Been into them since litterally as far back as I can remember, even as a toddler!
Just always been one of the main things in my life..... still hate working on the bloody things though

in the past 18 years or so since i had my license and first car, i would probably think i've spunked about £100k on cars, around £40k on the estate, around £18k on the 3 door and probably around £15k on the saph plus all the other stuff that you don't tend to think about when you've bought around 25 cars to drive about in and only actually sold one
would i have been better off financially putting that money into property and retiring when i was 20? yes, undoubtedly so, property millionare by now with double the income coming in for sitting on my arse all day rather than working for a living and paying ridiculous amounts of money on a mortgage
but i would never have had so much fun if i'd become an architect or an electrician
my life has been a veritable rollercoaster and i regret doing lots of things and i don't regret doing others, and for sure, if i could go back in time 18 years i'd have not got into the car when i did or let someone else drive it, but you can't change the past so there is no point bothering about it
i do justify spending money on the car, but i also am in a position to be able to afford to spend money on other things if and when i need them so it's not as hard for me, and coupious amounts of cash money income aside, i feel the pinch of fixing/running/using the car financially and if worse came to worse i'd catch a bus or cycle, but i wouldn't sit down and say so myself "you twat, you should have saved your money and bought a decent car in the first place" because then i'd be round the dealers ever 10 minutes thinking "i wonder how much that rattle is going to cost to fix" or turn out to be like my uncle who once said "i've got the option to either have abs or air con, so i chose the air con, but i'd rather than my windows open as the ac uses too much fuel"
and i'd hate to be that silly a person
