There is nothing wrong with the old T4 turbo.
and there is nothing wrong with the new GT turbo's ..........
but i just prefer the T4 for loads of reasons.

Major Pro has to be it's strength!! they can take so much punishment all day long and not cause any problem.
GT series are fragile to say the least!

The GT40 car i went in that Stu was mapping had a much more gradual powerband than the bang of the T4. A Pro or a con depending on what you like.

The GT40 is a 700hp turbo the T4 is not, Its just like comparing a 1.6lt engine to a 2lt.

Yes, the point is I'm led to beleive that GTs are like this generally, I assume because they start to build small boost earlier, rather than in one go later...

A correctly spec'ed GT turbo set up is better there no doubt about that its a all round better turbo,
You can make the older type turbo's work well but they wont match a GT,
When you see these hybrid T4 turbo's they are now not a T4 most will swap bearing housings or but diff type/GT compressor wheels on to the back of a T4 wheel, So you cant call it a T4 but maybe a T4GT
but its not a T4.

The T4's like mine from CR turbos retain standard T4 comp and turbine wheels albeit with full roller bearing cores and modified comp housings.

I was a full paid up member, Trev has taken over my membership in the club.
I really liked mine with inlet cam i had and once it was mapped, it wasn't so much an on and off car then.

Surely the only way to sort this one out would be, to have two cars of the same spec.
Head /CR / cams/ inlet etc.
One T4 one gt30.

I debated which one to go for but after speaking to the right people then going in a low comp red top turbo'd tigra runing a gt30 there was no real contest. So progressive and strong.

When overheated or in general? Do they drop like vauxhall cam sensors?

..a GT turbo needs water cooling with no anti lag and a good oil supply filtered and 2 dump valves ideally....a T4 needs no water can cope with mild anti lag oil supply critical but less critical than GT and no dump valve (controversial!!!)
