Mondeo ST220

I'm 99% sure you'd get away with it, until you have a bump
Only Mondeo nerds such as myself know that the ST220 is the only Mondeo you can't tow with, so the ol bill etc won't give you any hassle doing so.

Fords way of trying to keep it prestige I think
I've read all sorts, like the clutch can't handle it, the driveshafts will snap, the exhaust is in the way etc - all a load of bullshit if I'm honest
Standard tow bar will fit (or you can get a fancy detachable aftermarket one so you don't need to cut into the bumper) and it will tow just fine, not done it personally but I know people who have.

Interesting about the towing, thanks,
I will have to tow the track car with my van then
I going for the later 6 speed one and really want a saloon rather than hatch.
Anybody got any mpg figures, I'm thinking mid 20's

The 6 speed box is nice, strong, slick etc...and seems setup perfectly as far as I can tell. Every gear change wangs the revs to 5,000RPM which is peak torque and then it just screams like a biatch to 6,800RPM.
Mine is a saloon too, it has slightly better areodyanics than the rest of the range and looks better imo.
MPG...depends how you drive it? Worst I've got was 20mpg and that was giving it constant death over 182 miles. At 120mph its doing about 19mpg, at 70mph its doing about 35mpg and at 55mph its doing 40mpg. However I have averaged 43mpg over 60 miles of motorway and often see an average of 30mpg over a tank, 32mpg being my best.

They(FORD) don't list the towing capacity of cossie(sierras), but people tow with them, including my friend a traffic cop, we towed his MG to the MOT/Bodyshop place a few times.
Just look on the VIN plate for GTW this will tell you.

Awesome cars, managed to get the works one down to about 12 to the gallon (mind you, we now have a 530d and can easily see 14-15 to the gallon from that ).
If I had the money I would also consider an ST, one of my all time favourite cars.
And mine is the best colour scheme!!!!

it's with them both
the diesel you can't tow with due to the dual mass flywheel not liking the starts and being rather more prone to disintegrating due to it being not as highly spec'd due to the torque produced by the engine (or along those tehcniclaly lines)
the st220 you can't tow with due to something to do with the exhaust getting in the way as well as the flywheel issues
obviously these problems can be rectified with the fitment of a "normal" flywheel, but that's looking at a lot of money

It says in the manual that the ST220 is not homologated to tow, there is no towing weight specified on the VIN plate for ST220's.
You can tow perfectly legally and in confidence with an ST TDCi, the same can be said for the 3.0 V6 204ps which uses the same size 240mm clutch as the ST220.
The exhaust does not get in the way of the tow bar, the two back boxes are no-where near the mounting plate.
Oh and listen to this!

The engine has lots of character imo. Its unbelievably quiet on tick over, while cruising round down at 2,000RPM gives a distinctive "vwhrum" noise and is incredibly smooth even at sub 1000 rpm. Then as the revs build a growl starts to appear at 3,000RPM and as it gets to 4,000RPM the DSI kicks in, the induction note deepens and then it will fuck off to the redline
Why would you tow a nigger? Would he not just hijack another car? Coincidently from your granny...
This is a personal joke between myself and Gary, no blacks, asians or albanians have been injured, hurt or offended in the telling of this joke. I live next door to a black, and my cat is black, I am not a racist. (Until I've got my hood up)

What? It was a company car. They wanted it back. He drives a Volvo V50 T5 now and the ST might be a thirsty beast but the T5 is 5mpg worse!
