Renault Clio V6 (Mid Engined)
Anyone had or driven one of these little gems...........Comments Please
I know the earlier version had a few handling problems, but the later ones had a revised rear subframe and suspension.
They seem an awful lot of enthusiast car for the money (Relatively Speaking)

I have also heard that these are way way under power.
Last time i was at Goodwood though there was a turbo'd one but unfortuanlty it could not get through sound testing.
It is a bulky weighty car though needs more power

i like the look of them as there unique and will be a good classic in the future
unsure of the handling on the mk2s but yes the mk1s were shocking ive heard, and there not even as quick as a stage 1 saf, so very down on power

Not driven the later ones, but a Clio 172 would easily outpace an early V6 on a country road . Properly twitchy handling, and a back end that steps out... and doesn't like coming back!
Drove one from Bath to Crail and nearly lost it in Bath town centre... then again going on to the M4.. then coming out of the service station... etc
Funny car though, great presence and there's definitely something cool about them.

They are hugely difficult to drive fast, even the later cars with the revised suspension are still a huge handful and will bite an inexperienced driver very hard......
I personally love them as a hoon around idiot car,but unless you have lots of rwd experience and razor sharp reactions, steer well clear

had a mk.1 in 2005, whoever says a 172 is as fast is a just wrong lol, the v6 would welly it!
Lots of torque, not very fast but not slow, felt unstable at 140'ish, LOADS od road presence do not bother if you are the shy retiring type. Will never forget a fucking ferrari (duno what model) slowing down on the a55 to get a good look at mine lol!!!
Coilpacks go on them for fun, turning circle awful, but you will snap 15 year old knicker elastic at 30 yards lol!! A unique experience, i liked owning mine and the lad who bought it (local) still has it 3 years later.

I had a phase 1 and it was a great experience owning it. It felt special to drive and it's one of my favourite cars I've ever owned. They sound superb, drive nicely, handle great and look awesome in the flesh. Everywhere I went in it people just wanted to chat about it and have a look. Did get quite warm in there with the engine behind you though.
They aren't fast and I find it hard to believe they have the power they do, drive a 3L V6 Alfa GTV and they feel quick, the clio doesn't.
Handling is great, I took mine in px for an evo 6 and the guy seemed underwhelmed by the evo 6's cornering compared to the v6.

And just to add..
When you go on the clio forums and menaces are saying "get a 172 they are just as quick" they are totally missing the point. The V6 is more than just a buzzy hot hatch, it's a future classic and an ownership experience you will not regret getting into. I'm not dissing the 172 but the V6 is a totally different car.
Only thing I despised about mine was the look of the standard steering wheel, crap!

172 v V6.......Agree, it's a totally different idea on the fast hatch theme. Just love the mid engined design, and no doubt it will one day become a practical classic. Power to weight ratio isn't fantastic for a performance car, but as an enthusiast car it ticks all the right boxes. Just needs another 100bhp.

Jim if you want some good info log onto www.v6clio.net & register for the forum - loads of useful info on there regarding both mk1 & mk2 cars
I used to own one & loved it - brilliant fun car & an uprated exhaust, decent enclosed air filter & a simple ecu re-map improves the car a lot
As said before though they are expensive to run petrol wise & if you happen to prang one (even very lightly) dont expect it to be cheap to fix - the rear bumper alone on the mk2 is Ł1200 (unpainted) the plastic vent that goes into the rear bumper pushes close to Ł400 & also insurers like to try & write cars off with a simple side pod damage as "too expensive to repair"
This one was mine but i sold it to buy a Lotus Exige
