read something the other day that said that the CO2 produced during manufacturing a car and disposing of it when its dead by far outweigh the amount of co2 that will ever come out of its exhaust.

One of the biggest polluters in Russia is a factory that makes catalytic converters. it pumps heavy metals and other nasty stuff straight into a nearby river, and pollutes the countryside for hundreds of miles around. Go figure!
