Default who knows about scoobys ? running temp question (does the fan work)

bsaically i just bought it last week and the car runs up to temp within 5 mins and sits just under half way with no probs ......................... however , ive never heard the fan kick in ????

can a temp gauge be fooked so it goes up and stops half way ?????

if the fan was fooked and ive been driving it and sitting in traffic would the car have over heated by now ???

just be worring a bit .

if i took it for a drive now and then get out and pop the bonnet once the temp gauge is half way , then how long should it be till the fan kicks in ???

or how the hell does car stay at one temp if the fan dont kick in ???

should it be a viscous fan like a bmw etc ?

you sure they're deffo not kicking in, you just cant hear it? Does the car have air con? If so, switch it on, the fan should kick in then.

another thing you can do, remove the wire that goes to the temp sender and earth it. The gauge will shoot up to max. If its a two pin plug on the sender, then bridge the terminals with a piece of wire.

you have not got air con, so its very rare the fans will go on, the rads on these are very good. mine does the same as yours, with in 3 to 5 mins it just sits below half way and stays there.

where is this usually located . cos ive got a damaged wire that runs to the centre of the engine at the front . its got a broke wire that has another wire joining it together . i tried taping it up today and then once id tampered with it the fan went on mad and the check engine light came on ????

sounds fine to me. the fans are fairly silent in these cars. run the engine up to temp, park it up still running, pop the bonnet and wait a few mins. they will come on.

yours bein non aircon will only have a single fan. air con models have twin fans.

also these cars get up to temp on the gauge within a few mins.

mate feel the hoses to see if there hot is the FIRST thing to do

as said the rad on a scoobie is massive and works well, my water pipe on the cold side feels cold when stationary,,,,, but i fans do kick in ( i could give you my old split rad to test it and see if it over heats pmsl )

yeah , all pipes get hot . the top one on the left as you look in to the engine bay and the bottom one gets hots aswell . as does the rad.

just thought its weird how the car stays at one temp and i havent heard the fan ?

who do you take your scooby to , to get work done??

or do you do it yourself ?

just got a very good cooling system. I've only ever heard the fan cut in on my mondeo once. That was when i had the engine idling on a hot day for about 15 mins!
