my turbo is smoking when i back off the accelerator am i right in thinking that it is the turbo

 

I think thats piston rings mate, but not sure 100%!!
If it was the turbo it would smoke when boosting, and not at all or at least not as much when off boost.

 

mine used to smoke when puting the foot down again after backing off from hard boost/acceleration.also used to smoke if left idleing for several minutes. was indeed the turbo and was cured after fitting a new turbo..

 

sounds like the turbo, mine was fucked and smoked at idle, not good when stuck in traffic, take off the boost hose and check the shaft for play and see if any of the blades are damaged etc

How much smoke we talking about. If it's just a puff and it does it when you start it could be the valve stem oil seals.
