Default Leak

Any idea's why the wadding under the carpet (but not the carpet!) would be damp down in the driver side and passenger front footwells?

I cant fathom out where its coming from

Hmmm what grommet!

Going to try and pull all the wadding out tonight from behind the heater section (its the only part left inside the car!).

Isnt there a grommet by the battery for wiring to go into the engine. Plus check the loom wiring going into the car.

No, its sitting on the loom................. In the garage!

I've gotta feeling its coming from somewhere else, like the Window seal!

Damaged waterproof seal inside the doors ?? My Capri use to leak like buggery due to holes in the plastic membrane behind the door card.

No visible signs being honest, I'm wondering if it was from a leak previous which has been sorted and never dried fully.

Putting a dehumidifier in there for a few days anyway!

If the same as sapphies, the water can run along the bonnet pull cable and drips down the bulkhead inside, as mine did, till I put some sealant around the grommet, then welded the rotten floor pan up!!

jay 95% chance its the door foam stuff that is behind the door cards! mine is leaking through there and into the footwell and i had a ocean in there!

quote from my bodywork mate '' if that foam/seal is broken anywhere water WILL come in ''

hence i have got some new one's on the way, can get you some if you need... mine had a prev owner make a right mess of them so i've had to remove all the sealer and do it all fresh to go with the new seal...

(failing that loom holes and theres 5 holes i think where the battery stay thing goes.) BUT i almost guarentee its the door seals...

IS VERY GOOD YES...... Adxx

jase,i thought you said it was the deadning up the back of the dash not on the floor?if its a matrix 1.there wont be much water in it as you've got no engine 2.it will run onto the floor not up the bulkhead
my saff still leaked after i changed my matrix so it was under the fuse box.

have you checked that the snuroof drains down the front pillar are clear?

Nah mate, deffo bottom of the footwell! But after everyone comments here, the matrix could be the culprit! As it hasnt got any worse (due to no engine!)..

Thinking about it, the heater blower stopped working prior to the car getting stripped, wonder If thats linked?

the blower should be seperate tot he matrix

but the matrix is the first pot of call regardless of anything else

and make sure it's dry before you put stuff back in again as not only will it start to rot the rest of the car, it'll stink like merry buggery for ages afterwards

disassemble the car and eventually you will get to the heater matrix

built like a nuclear sub, with the bit you want to get to most often being buried in the internals

take this oportunity to go and look at a mk3/4/5 cortina where the heater matrix was bolted just above the air filter and took but seconds to remove and replace

I hate agreeing with our web toed freind above Kelvin, but for once I think he's right!

Tania phoned last night to see how far I'd got, had a rant over something and she said..................

'Maybe you should pay someone to come round and do the matrix, we dont want another boost pod issue!'

Well havent had a chance to check this yet as I had to strip the front diff yesterday.

But hopefully pressure testing the matrix tonight

Here's where it seems the worst (circled)

Again I'd expect it to be soaked with the amount of rain we've been having of late, but its damp........... IE an old leak?!?!

That was the interior fan switch, and I'd imagine the heater matrix wouldn't be connected to the this surely?!?!

Next question.........

Anybody got a picture of a heater matrix out of the car and/or where they fail...

Funny thing was when Tania saw it, she said 'You've lost your fcuking temper again, well dont come crying to me' turned around and walked upstairs!

I just stood there open mouthed, muttering 'BUUUUUT'

Seriously though, a small amount of pressure, little wiggle here and there, then snap! I couldn't believe it!
