I'm looking at getting a replacement oil breather.

I've got the standard one, which to my knowledge hasn't been moved since it was fitted in 1988.

And, it looks like it's probably not working as the engine appears to be 'breathing' through the oil filler cap - there's a thin film of oil on the cam cover that comes back after i clean it up, eminating from the oil filler cap.

I've seen that there are several types and understand basically how they work and what they do. I also remember seeing that there's a few types, with different pipe layouts - can anyone advise me on which sort is 'best' and what modifications I'll need to make to fit one?

o-ring seal on the oil filler cap wears out try that first.

 

what sort of bhp are you running; if its no more than stage 3 just go for a bailey set up. good quality and not that expensive

easy to fit and will work fine

basically there are 4 take off's on the breather,

2 x take offs, 1 goes to rocker cover (you will need to drill out the cam cover)

the other goes to the where the existing kidney box sits,

smaller bottom pipe returns to the block on the exhaust side of the block

last pipe vents to atmosphere

 

agreed, but i would get rid of the standard kidney box set up even on a standard car -

 

The sdt set up is crap, even on a std engine, has nmore to do with emissions than power.
You could try packing out the seal first by cutting a cereal box up into a ring shape and fit betweent he cap and seal so it exerts more pressure.
I would just get a decent breather though, don't need anything fancy, look on RATSPORT.co.uk around Ł50.
If you want a custom made one let me know, and it can be made and hidden out of the way.
