Default distributor housing problems!

Hi guys, I have just finished doing a head gasket change on my RS, i cant get the car to start, i have narrowed it down to the distributor housing, i cant find the right angle of rotation to get a spark at the plugs, just wondering if there was any way of knowing how to get it lined up so its timed up correctly?
Any help really appreciated.
Cheers.

The dizzy being in the wrong position can stop it starting but NOT stop it sparking, so if not sparking you have another problem first to fix.

use a strobe light gun on the flywheel to get your timing to 12 degrees before top dead centre, turn the dizzy housing untill this is achieved. will take to of you to do this. have a look in the haynes manual mate.
