My insurance says that i get a "proportionate return of my premium minus £35" if I cancel my insurance, but what happens if I cancel now after 2 months, bearing in mind I pay monthly (18ish quid)

Do I cancel and just stop paying?

 

check your schedule, with 11month of your contract remaining you may recieve 70% back, with 8month you may get 30% back,with 6month you may have 10%, you may recieve a fee to that amount- requesting payment or 2 month still to pay or ??? how long is a piece of string? call and ask .
