running hot??

Default running hot??

hi there my s2 is running hot, when im going steady down the motorway it sits at about half way on the gauge and when i stop or get in trafic it shoots up to just below the red.
i was thinking the rad was blocked as its not overheating.... what you recon?

Check the fuse and wiring for the cooling fan.

checked the fuse and it was fine, then run the car up and the fan cuts in when the guage is just above the 'N' of the norm then cuts out on the 'o'. maybe the temprature swich???

Hey chap, just a thought. It could be an airlock in the cooling system, as I had a similar problem on a fiesta. Have you had any leaks recently? Or replaced any components to do with the cooling? This could have introduced air into the system. Pm me if you want any more advice about it

thanks for the replys....just brought the car a few days ago but it doesnt look to have any leaks or recent new parts but i guess i could pressure test it.

Do you not just think this is normal for the car? Whilst going down the motorway you are getting cool air over the rad, keeping temps down. As soon as you stop you lose the cooling ram air and so the heat-soak increases temps.
You know the fan works fine so imo it's just the lack of cooling air which makes the gauge move up.

For peace of mind you could fit a fan over-ride switch inside the car so as you slow down you can switch the fan on at a time/ temp that suits you keeping overall temps down.

seems to be ok now, the car hadn't been driven for a few months but now seems to have come down alot, maybe i just had a airlock or something..... thanks for your reply anyway mate!!
