Default Stiff Clutch? Problem or Not?

Hi all,

Firstly, i am new to passionford! Just got myself a nice Series 1 Escourt RS Turbo. I use to drive a Mondeo ST200 but i have sold it on (only had 36k on the clock). I hope im not being rude by making my first post needing help!

Firstly, i am not mechanically minded, very little knowledge lol.

The Clutch on my RS seems really stiff, i have to put the thing right to the floor to change gear (duh! lol), It seems to only allow for gear change when its right to the floor, where as other cars i have driven bite half way(ish) - This could be how RS's drive though right?

Whats annoying is getting the "bite" because its stiff, its obviously not smooth, therefore getting the sweet spot for first gear has "taken practice" to perfect, im just wondering if i am able to get a garage to look at it to free it up a little bit? New cable perhaps?

Dont get me wrong, i love the car to bits an always have, if this is the way it drives then thats cool, but if i can make it smoother, i would feel better all round!

Many Thanks!

James

is the engine tuned? Maybe your clutch is changed for a race clutch? and me car has no probs with changing gear with clutch haveway. Maybe the clutch quadrant is in bad shape. That's something you could check

Good luck with the car!

My clutch feels stiff/heavy and the biting point is lower than normal but it is uprated to a AP Racing clutch to handle the extra power i'm running, sounds like yours maybe uprated too.
Do yo know what power your are putting out? Anything over about 165bhp (approx) and will need a uprated clutch.

Hi all - update!

Spax kindly fitted a new Clutch Cable and Accel Cable!

Prior to Spax doing this there was a "rubbing" noise when the clutch pedal was pressed. It is most likly a clutch release bearing! So im told!

After the new cable, the clutch peddel is much smoother but problem is still there.

Anyhow, the car is putting out about 160BHP i belive. The clutch is uprated according to recepits

I only get problems with it when its running hot! Currently im trying to sourse a clutch, Spax is trying to find some finnis(?) for me! lol

I presume i will be ok with a standard clutch although an uprated one would be better!

Hope it aint to much work for a mechanic to do!

Hi Guys,

Found this site: https://www.burtonpower.com/product_main.aspx?home.aspx

Im looking at the 200mm (CP2000-6) - Its £212 and it says you dont need to mod the clutch pedal although i belive mine is modded anyway.

What do you guys think?
