right fitted an ap 4 paddle clutch to my escort rs turbo on saturday i brought it from burtons and the sales advisor told me i could use my standard cover plate and thrust bearing (only covered 500 miles) i also fitted the peddle up grade but now the clutch is not engaging and the fork on the gear box seems to far back if the amal vavle was still fitted it would be touching it. anyone have any advise as the car is stuck in my mates work shop??
Standard cover plate??
AP clutches come as a 3 peice kit, clutch/friction plate, cover/pressure plate, and release/thrust bearing.
You can use a standard release bearing if you want but without the uprated pressure plate you've wasted your time because it will not grip any better than a stock clutch.
The reason uprated clutches feel heavier and need the pedal mod is because they have a much stonger pressure plate than a stock clutch (this is why they dont slip when you up the power).
Not that this helps your problem but i'm suprised Burtons would only sell you the clutch plate and tell you to use your stock pressure plate!!
