k lads urgent help ,i bought an escort with a frst lump fitted,to drive bak to ireland,car was running fine,then when i decided to leave for the boat,the car started to make a tapping noise which sounds as if its a tappet trying to jump through the rocker cover,ther is no smoke from the car under load or loss of power or missing.plenty of oil in the car,any help greatly appreciated as i cant head home until its sorted ,also im in thurruck essex .

 

have you checked too c if your follower is loose at all fella ive had that before

 

A tappin noise is USUALLY a top end problem. Take the rocker off and check the tappets for sign of wear. Pusht the little button on top of the follower to see if it is ok. If it has been running it should be fairly hard to push down if it moves at all. Make sure the followers are flat and not domed.
