Default What would you do with an MOT failed S2? (2nd attempt)

Ok, the S2 failed the MOT on 2 tyres, 2 shockies, a new wing (rust), new discs and pads and 2 small bits of welding required to the underside.

Now, this is gonna cost about £500 and i aint got that spare, so what do i do?

I see 3 options

1) Find the £500 from somewhere and get it MOTd

2) Sell it as it is with little MOT to someone who could do the work themselves and save some money.

3) Break it, but unsure how much you'd get for it.

**DISCLAIMER** THIS POST IS FOR ADVICE AND IS NOT A FOR SALE POST so if you want to buy this please PM me as the mods will just delete it if there is a sniff of trading.

I did answer the first time but my advice went the way of the mod.

anyway , make some friends quick that can weld and buy them a pint, got to a local parts shop and get some disks and padsand shocks, then to the local part worn tyre depot for the tyres and bingo 150 quid later your mot is passed.

Thanks for replying again youth

I don't know what parts shops you're going to but 2 shockies will cost £100, discs and pads at least £100, then the welding, then a new wing and someone to fit and paint it - i'm not doubting YOU could get that done for about £150 but when you don't have any contacts it's not as easy

£500 ain the end of the world mate. Save for a couple of weeks and get it sorted.

Bills and RS's go kinda hand in hand

Aye but it's the same every year at MOT time, these RSs are just money pits but i suppose you all know that already

It just kinda pisses me off now after 3 years and the same old repairs every time, mostly due to bloody rust

And it's up on 10th November so need to act fast whatever i do

Cheers for replies

to be honest if you cant afford £500 it may be worth thinking twice about owning an RS..
for max money break the car.. you WILL however have a lot of parts lying arround! and you wont get your cash all in one go

I think you're right Cab turbo, i don't think i can afford or be bothered with the hassle of owning an RS, it's only taken me 3 years to figure this out

My dad's gettin on at me now as well cos it just sits in the drive most of the time and he keeps tellin me to get rid but it's very difficult when you love the lump of rust and he'd go mad if there was half a car sittin there

Oh the stress

Other options include...

Borrow 2 wheels for the MOT, search around for some 2nd hand struts (sure I have 2 somewhere), new front wing will be about £17 and it will pass the mot without being painted (get that done later). Get a garage or mate to fit it for you and also ask him to do the other welding jobs at the same time. Disc's and Pads thats a safety issue so get them replaced. 1 hour job at the most and parts from a motorfactors and shouldnt cost more than £80.

Replace the tyres once through the MOT, paint the wing, and keep on top of the car all year then next MOT time you won't have any nasty surprises.

nuts rus is spot on there is nothing wrong with using second hand bits and borrowing wheeels. a car with a mot will sell quicker and for more than one with out if you have to go down that path!

Agree with Nuts to a certain extent. If its been the same since youv owned it every mot though, it might not be worth throwing money at??????

What about a reshel?> theres a nice one in the RS turbo parts for sale section. its 500 quid and comes with konis etc
