My mk3 escort cabriolet 1.8 efi zetec is running badly. It was excellent all last year, parked her up in oct and got her out again beginning of this month. Over the past few months i have replaced the frst charge carrier with a tidier escort rst one, stuck a new rad in, added an oil catch tank and tidyed some odds and ends up with the wiring. It fires up for about 30 seconds and then idles very roughly untill she cuts out. Touch the throttle linkage and she will splutter, miss fire, back fire and die. I have changed the Plugs, Leads, Coil pack with brand new ones, i have gone over the wiring with a fine toothed comb to check for breakages or kinks and nothing serious as come up. I have replaced the fuel filter, pump, injectors and rail, all the main sensors. I just cant understand what else can be wrong with her, plugged her into a fault finder through the diagnostic port and she drew a blank.....
Any Ideas??
Nick
ps heres on for you, everytime i pull the water temp connecter switch off the sensor she increases idle slightly and runs spot on for a minute or 2 before playing up again.....

my xr2i had troubles idleing wasnt as bad as yre saying you could try cleaning the air valve on the inlet manifold that cured the probs4me!then ave you checked the conections to the lamba sensor?I wouldnt worry to much about the crankshaft position sensor as wouldnt of thought it would run atall!has the car got a MAF sensor?as cant see1 on the pic thats worth trying!give them a try if its not that then theirs a couple of other more in deapth things to try!hope that helps
Check that the fuel pump is working correctly as that could cause it if the pressure starts to drop off.
A thing to bear in mind when you do get it running is that if they have been stood for a while the valves tend not to open properly and it will run like a bag of shit till it gets warm. other than that i think your on the right lines with the ICV. If it were the crank sensor the car wouldnt start at all though as it wouldnt be getting a signal pickup from the flywheel.
