Default why the zetec engine need Dcoe with 5 progression holes?

Hello, a friend is putting in his fiesta mk2 a 2.0 complete zetec engine. He will put a pair of 45 Dcoes, but the pair he is mounting is 3 progression hole type.

My question is : Why the zetec need 5 progression hole type? and can I drill the two suplementary holes in the carbs?.

Money is an important question , my friend do not like to buy another pair of Dcoes. With the 3 progression holes the engine will run smooth?

Any help will be appreciated

I can only assume that more progression nholes mean finer fuel control.
I would contact RK TUNING as he is the god of carbs.
RON KIDELL, is the mans name.

Without being funny, just ring/e-mail Weber... they will tell you, after all they spent ages developing these carbs and experimenting with the progression holes to ensure the best drive they could get with the Zetec engine.

Its all to do with part throttle and the transition from idles to mains.

It just means it will drive lovely and smooth with no flat spots.

Drilling your own progression holes is a dodgy game, if you drill them in the wrong place you will introduce flat spots and without a very steady hand you risk damaging the body of the carb.

Dont Start Drilling Hole In You Side Draughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You Will Ruin Them ---------as Tab Says Prog Holes Are As They Sound Fine Tuning
Any Adjjustment Must Be Chokes Emultion Jets /mains And Primarys /venturies Etc -etc Go Easyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! You Need To Find Someone With The Same Set Up And Even Then It Will Only Be Close!!! You Will Need It On The Rollers -----assuming They Are 40.s?? Dont Think (as Some People Do !!) I'll Go For 48'/50's) Only Out/out Race Rally Engines Can Accomidaite That Size-good Luck-there Is No Better Sound Than Big Webbers Sucking Away At Full Chat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!awsomeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I Run A Nice Mint Late Escos And Would Preffer It On Big Webbers Less F-ing About!lol

Okey , then with the 3 progression hole the engine won`t be smooth then?
My friend`s car is a Fiesta mk2 and he`ss use it for circuits. My question about drilling suplementary holes is because here, in Spain is difficult and expensive to get those carbs.
Anyway if the engine can run reasonably smooth at low rpms, but goes well in the high rpms, it will be not a problem because the car use is circuits mainly.

thanks for the responses

You will be able to get a PERFECT set up on the three hole carbs, BUT it will not be as good as a PERFECT 5 hole carb.

if money is of importance then why on is he ditching the efi setup and putting carbs on it??? if its a standard engine surely there isnt that much of a performance gain to be had just a lot less lower mpg?
ive never put carbs on a zetec, so i dont actually know what the difference they will make and am quite curious now!

My friend has only the zetec block and head, and not the manifolds, or the ecu and loom.
Also is easier to fit the engine with carbs, because the car does not have efi fuel pump for example

How are you planning to get a spark on the engine?

Dan

Hello, the spark will be probably a electronic system independant from the fuel alimentation

To get the best though you will need a 3d mappable system, which is for ignition only virtually as expensive as a fuel/ignition one.
Carbs can be made to run perfect but will almost never beat fuel injection overall due to finer control on the injection.

If you bin the standard EFI set up, add twin 45s and an ECU to control the ignition you can get around 170 bhp. I think a gain of over 30 bhp is worth the effort dont you?

I would not bother with carbs though and fit some twin 40 TBs.

The MegaJolt system looks interesting. Have you some information of that system?
The Edis system is easily obtainable from another engine.

The setup for the engine will be:

2.0 zetec block and head
1.8 130 bhp cams
Twin 45`s with 38mm o 40mm venturis
Ignition system Unknown?
